Panthers vs Patriots Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 4

The Panthers' 30-0 win over the Falcons comes with some red flags, notably that Bryce Young didn't throw a TD pass, he threw for fewer than 200 yards, and Carolina was outgained. The Patriots stop the run, and Mike Vrabel will have them ready.

Both the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots enter Week 4 with 1-2 records, but Bryce Young's squad is looking for back-to-back wins, while the Pats want to bounce back from Sunday’s defeat.

My early Panthers vs Patriots predictions and NFL picks have New England getting back to its winning ways, thanks to its ability to defend the run.

Tune in with the kickoff at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 28, on FOX.

Panthers vs Patriots predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Panthers vs Patriots spread pick: Patriots -4.5

-110 at FanDuel

The line has already moved from the New England Patriots -3.5 to -4.5, and it might continue to rise throughout the week. That’s despite the Carolina Panthers coming off an impressive 30-0 victory over the Falcons.

That win came with some alarm bells, as the Panthers scored 30 points, but Bryce Young threw for only 121 yards with zero touchdowns. Atlanta even outgained Carolina 332-224 in total yards.

They now face a Patriots team that has looked strong against the run, giving up the second-fewest yards on the ground (60.3 per game). Across three games, they’ve allowed just two rushing touchdowns.

The way to beat the Patriots is through the air, with only three teams giving up more aerial yardage. However, Young has had two sub-160-yard passing games this season and has been picked off three times.

The Patriots lost to Pittsburgh on Sunday, but the Steelers under Aaron Rodgers look like a playoff team, which can’t be said for the Panthers. The Patriots should cover in Foxborough.

Early Panthers vs Patriots total pick: Under 43.5

-105 at FanDuel

Neither the Panthers nor the Patriots looks like an offensive juggernaut, and we’re expecting Sunday’s matchup to be a low-scoring one. The Panthers have averaged 20.7 points this season, marginally more than the Patriots' 20.

The Under is 2-1 in Panthers games. Before the 30-point win over the Falcons this past Sunday, the Panthers scored 10 against the Jaguars to open their season, followed by a 22-point performance against the Cardinals, another team with a poor defense.

Meanwhile, the Patriots have also seen the Under go 2-1 in their games. New England combined for 27 points against two reasonable defenses in the Raiders and Steelers, with their 33-point haul coming against a shambolic Dolphins stop unit.

These are two below-par offenses, and we can’t rely on Young’s arm to either cover for the Panthers or help build up the score.
