The Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams swapped quarterbacks back in 2021, and while Jared Goff has had his share of success in Motown, L.A. looks like the winner of that trade.

Matthew Stafford not only led Los Angeles to a Super Bowl LVI win but has the Rams back on the championship path in 2025.

However, my early Lions vs. Rams predictions and NFL picks think Jared Goff could get the last laugh on December 14.

Early Lions vs Rams spread pick: Lions +5.5

-115 at FanDuel

The Los Angeles Rams opened at -4.5 — a half-point hook on the underrated key number of four — and instantly jumped to -5.5 following their one-sided win over Arizona on Sunday.

While L.A. warrants that movement, we're getting some recency bias baked into this adjustment. There are also shorter spreads at sharper books, with a low of Rams -4.5.

The Detroit Lions took down Dallas 44-30 on Thursday, and unlike many of the Rams’ opponents, this offense has the firepower to trade shots with Stafford & Co.

Los Angeles has almost no home-field edge at SoFi Stadium, especially against teams like the Lions, who have widespread fanbases and travel well. There will be no shortage of Honolulu Blue in the stands this Sunday.

I don’t think we’ll see this spread go any higher, with the next stop the key number of six. If you like the Lions, this might be as good as it gets. Rams backers shouldn’t be in too much of a rush.

Early Lions vs Rams total pick: Over 53.5

-112 at FanDuel

This Over/Under opened as low as 52.5 points and didn’t waste time climbing to 53.5, with vig on the Over indicating more movement.

Once you’re on the other side of 51 points, the next key number is 55 O/U, and books can move more aggressively to 54.5 points.

As mentioned, both teams can score with dynamic attacks through the air and on the ground. Since Week 10, the Lions and Rams rank Top 5 in EPA per play.

The X-factor in Week 15 will be Detroit’s defense. The Lions have enjoyed a mini bye and added time to heal, but this secondary is decimated and just lost star safety Brian Branch for the season.

The Lions have topped the total in five of their last six contests and gave up 27 points or more in four of those outings.

If you like the Over, I’d bet it now.
