Carolina can keep this close by attacking a Detroit secondary that has allowed 299.3 passing yards per game. Bryce Young has Tetairoa McMillan and his tight ends to work with, and quick throws can give the Panthers a way to move the chains before Detroit’s pressure gets home. That protection problem is central to Jason Logan’s Lions vs. Panthers prediction, which favors Detroit. Left guard Damien Lewis is out, Xavier Legette is unavailable, and Jalen Coker is unlikely to play. Those are real obstacles for the home underdog, but Detroit’s coverage has left enough openings for Carolina to stay within a field goal.

The tougher assignment belongs to Carolina’s defense. Starting cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are on injured reserve, while Jared Goff has thrown eight touchdowns without an interception. If the Panthers protect their replacement corners with deeper coverage, Detroit can keep feeding Jahmyr Gibbs underneath and on the ground; bringing help toward the line leaves more room for Goff’s receivers. Carolina will need sustained possessions of its own to avoid falling behind. We’re taking Panthers +3.5 and Over 50.5, but the total is a thin call: rain is forecast, Carolina’s receiving options are depleted, and our 51-point projection clears the line by only half a point.

Jahmyr Gibbs gives us two ways to attack Carolina’s defense. He has four rushing touchdowns and two receiving scores through three games, with 18 catches keeping him involved even when Detroit throws. Carolina has allowed 580 rushing yards over that span, and its depleted secondary makes it harder to devote extra defenders to stopping him.

Gibbs has scored six of Detroit’s 12 touchdowns, so we’re backing an established scoring role. Carolina did limit Bijan Robinson to 81 scrimmage yards in Week 2, and Devin Lloyd’s return gives the Panthers an important defender against another versatile back. Still, Gibbs can finish a drive on the ground or turn a short pass into a score. At 74% on Kalshi, he’s our pick to reach the end zone.

How our NFL AI predictions work

Our NFL AI predictions use a custom forecasting model built with GPT-6 Astra to project a final score for each matchup using historical scoring results, team-strength ratings, game conditions, matchup details, and other relevant context for predicting the final score.

The score forecasts are fixed before we compare them with the selected Kalshi spread and total to produce our ATS and Over/Under picks. Kalshi percentages are market quotes, separate from the score forecasts. We track results against the original selections and lines at time of publish.

We’ll continue updating the process as the season develops and publicly track every published score prediction, ATS pick, and Over/Under selection.

Odds and market lines are correct at the time of publishing and are subject to change.
