Football fans get a possible Super Bowl LX preview with a monster matchup between the Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.

Detroit has looked unstoppable since dropping the season opener, while Kansas City is playing this Sunday Night Football showdown on a short week after losing at Jacksonville on Monday.

Here are my Lions vs. Chiefs predictions and NFL picks for October 12.

Lions vs Chiefs predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early SNF spread pick: Lions +1.5 (-118)

-118 at FanDuel

We must be cautious not to fall prey to recency bias after watching the Kansas City Chiefs come up short on Monday night. The Chiefs had some uncharacteristic penalties play into that final drive that fell way short of a last-second comeback.

The biggest concern for Kansas City is the defense, however. The Chiefs allowed just 319 yards, but didn’t do the little things that win football games. Penalties were a problem, but the Jaguars also went 5-for-9 on third downs and 3-for-4 in the red zone.

Detroit’s offense has been rolling since its loss at Green Bay in Week 1. From Week 2 onward, the Lions are the No. 1 attack in EPA per play and No. 2 in success rate per snap. Granted, they’ve played some softer stop units along the way, but there’s no denying the firepower on this roster.

This spread is already moving on Tuesday morning, and some shops have jumped the fence to Detroit -1. I’m leaning Lions as short road dogs in Week 6.

Early SNF total pick: Over 50.5 (-115)

-115 at FanDuel

Despite the loss, the Chiefs mounted some solid offensive numbers against a good Jacksonville defense on Monday night.

Kansas City finished with 476 yards of offense, including 318 yards through the air, went 5-for-9 on third downs, and 4-for-5 in the red zone. The Chiefs have ironed out the wrinkles that held this attack back in the opening two weeks, scoring 87 total points the past three games.

The Lions’ defense is rating out well, but has buckled when facing quality quarterback competition. Detroit gave up 27 points and two touchdown completions to Jordan Love in Week 1 and allowed 30 points and three touchdown passes to Lamar Jackson in Week 3.

Considering all the amazing skill players on both sides, it’s tough not to lean toward the Over 50.5.
