Where has this season gone? It feels like only yesterday that it got underway.
Either way, we’re on the hunt for opportunity and value, and of course, those elusive touchdowns.
Here are my best three first touchdown scorer props and NFL picks for Week 9!
Best Week 9 first TD scorer props
TD prop #1: Josh Jacobs first TD scorer
When identifying a first touchdown scorer, it’s always worth looking at which games have the largest spreads on the slate.
The Carolina Panthers' trip to Lambeau to face the Green Bay Packers sees Green Bay as the second biggest favorite on Sunday. If we’re picking a Packers star to score first, it simply has to be Josh Jacobs.
Jacobs leads the Packers with nine touchdowns, an impressive feat considering Green Bay has already had its bye and Jacobs has played just seven games. He’s been on a tear lately, scoring two touchdowns in three of his last four outings.
TD prop #2: Davante Adams first TD scorer
Next up, we’re taking the biggest favorite on the slate with the Los Angeles Rams, 14-point favorites to beat the New Orleans Saints.
There’s an array of offensive talent on the Rams roster, especially with Puka Nacua returning to action. We’re going to be betting on his fellow wideout, Davante Adams, who comes into this game having scored three touchdowns in his last outing.
He’s fresh following the bye week and facing a Saints defense that is averaging one touchdown to wide receivers per game. What makes Adams such an appealing bet is the sheer amount of looks he’s getting in the red zone. He’s been targeted 17 times targets inside the 20, which is more than anyone else in the NFL.
TD prop #3: Colston Loveland first TD scorer
Our final first touchdown scorer is available at longer odds and has yet to score a TD in their NFL career, but stick with me, the argument is compelling.
No team in the NFL has allowed more touchdowns to tight ends than the Cincinnati Bengals, who have given up a staggering 10 already this season.
What makes us so bullish on Chicago Bears rookie Colston Loveland isn’t just his proven pass-catching ability from his Michigan days or the way Ben Johnson previously featured Sam LaPorta in Detroit. It’s also how the Bears have steadily increased Loveland’s usage in recent weeks, setting a season high in targets in Week 7 and then topping it again in Week 8.
