Don’t look now, but James Eastham is bullish on Switzerland pulling off a Round of 16 upset.

This promises to be an exciting clash between the tournament’s top two outsiders, although it is debatable whether the term ‘outsiders’ applies given how well these teams have played.

Although Colombia are +131 favorites, I expect Switzerland to emerge triumphant at the end of a high-scoring encounter.

Read on for my Colombia vs. Switzerland predictions and World Cup picks for Tuesday, July 7, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET in Vancouver.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Colombia vs Switzerland: Switzerland (+270)

The World Cup odds give the South Americans a +127 (44% chance) of winning in regulation time, while Switzerland are as big as +270 (27% chance).

Nothing in either team’s form warrants such disparity. Colombia are 3-1 at the World Cup, yet failed to win on the only occasion they faced high-caliber opposition (Portugal). They were the better team against Ghana in the Round of 32 (1-0 win), but the narrowness of their victory underlines the struggles they’ve had turning attacking pressure into goals.

Meanwhile, Switzerland saw off Bosnia (4-1) and co-hosts Canada (2-1) in the group phase, and they were even more impressive in a 2-0 win over Algeria.

The draw (+233) is worth considering, but Switzerland’s superior goalscoring potential gives them the edge.

Back the outsiders to +260.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Switzerland boast a +2.0 average goal difference from three wins against opponents averaging a 40.6 FIFA ranking, while Colombia sit at +1.33 despite facing weaker opposition (56.3 average ranking).

Colombia vs Switzerland Over/Under pick: Over 2.5 (+146)

Playing in a fast, direct style, Switzerland have hit nine goals in four matches, underlining the clinical edge the team has once the ball arrives in the final third of the field.

Much like tournament favorites France, Switzerland are set up to provide the perfect attacking platform for their tremendous front four. Target man Breel Embolo has two goals, while Johan Manzambi — the World Cup’s breakout star going into the Round of 16 — has scored three times.

Meanwhile, Switzerland also conceded a goal in all three group-stage games. That should give Colombia real confidence that they can find the net at least once in regulation.

I love the Over and would play it to +140.
