The 2025 NFL season kicks off on Thursday night with a clash between the reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys.
Philadelphia is an 8-point home favorite in this clash, which is a big reason why I'm expecting a run-heavy approach from the Eagles and inflated passing numbers from Cowboys QB Dak Prescott.
My NFL player props are also backing Eagles pivot Jalen Hurts to take advantage of the tush push.
Here are my best NFL picks for Cowboys vs. Eagles on September 4.
Cowboys vs Eagles TNF props
Prescott o249.5 passing yards (-110)
Barkley o94.5 rushing yards (-110)
Hurts anytime touchdown (-150)
Dak Prescott Over 249.5 passing yards (-110 at bet365)
When healthy, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has been one of the most productive passers in the NFL.
Prescott threw for 4,516 yards in 17 games in 2023, which was the third time in his career that he cracked the 4,400-yard plateau. Dallas also got him a decent No. 2 wide receiver during the offseason, adding George Pickens to play opposite of All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.
The Philadelphia Eagles allowed a league-low 174.2 passing yards per game last year. That said, they love to rotate pass rushers, and their depth in that area took a serious hit. Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Brandon Graham, and Bryce Huff — who were second, fourth, fifth, and sixth on the team in pressures — all left in the offseason.
Philly is an 8-point home favorite, which should mean a negative game script for Prescott. That will lead to plenty of passes for Prescott, who has eclipsed 270 yards in each of his last three games against the Eagles.
Saquon Barkley Over 94.5 rushing yards (-110 at bet365)
Saquon Barkley is coming off an incredible year that saw him take home the NFL Most Outstanding Player Award. He rushed for 2,005 yards in 16 regular-season games before adding another 499 yards in the playoffs.
Barkley scampered for 95+ yards in 15 of 20 games last year, and I expect him to get enough touches to eclipse that number against an awful Dallas run defense.
The Cowboys ranked 31st in the NFL in defensive rush EPA last year, finished 29th in rushing yards allowed per game (137.1), and they gave up 167 yards to Barkley in Week 16.
Jalen Hurts anytime touchdown (-110 at bet365)
The tush push was nearly banned in the offseason but came up two votes short of the 24 needed to pass. That means more trips to the end zone for Philly QB Jalen Hurts, who rushed for 19 touchdowns in the regular season and playoffs last year.
This Eagles offense returns intact, so expect plenty of continuity, especially on the offensive line, which has one of the best units in the league. Philly should move the ball at will against a Cowboys D that surrendered 27.5 ppg in 2024 and traded away superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons last week.
Dallas surrendered a league-high 553 rushing yards and a whopping 10 touchdowns to opposing QBs last year. That's fantastic news for Hurts, who has reached paydirt in 11 of his last 14 games.
