The Indianapolis Colts are the surprise team of the NFL so far at 3-0 with one of the best offenses in the league, but they are about to get a fierce test on the road in Inglewood, CA, when they take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, September 28.

My early Colts vs. Rams predictions and NFL picks expect a high-scoring game with a solid mix of passing and rushing on both sides.

Colts vs Rams predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Colts vs Rams spread pick: Colts +3.5

The bad news for the Indianapolis Colts is that they punted for the first time this season last week against the Tennessee Titans. The good news is they still put up 41 points and 365 total yards of offense. They also have yet to turn the ball over this season.

However, the Los Angeles Rams will be their toughest game thus far, and it is on the road. They rank fifth in the NFL in yards allowed and just held the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles to only 288 yards of total offense.

With that said, they still allowed 33 points and lost the game by seven. They also have an exact game to compare to the Colts since they played at Tennessee two weeks ago. The Rams won that game 33-19, and the Colts just won last week 41-20.

The Colts' passing defense has held up well thus fa,r and they can play well enough here to keep this game close. If it were to go under a field goal spread, I would be less confident, but with getting that 3.5, I think the Colts lose a very close game, if not pull off another upset.

Early Colts vs Rams total pick: Over 48.5

The Colts have done their part in contributing to the Over in all three games this season, averaging 34.3 points per game. That ranks third in the NFL behind only the Baltimore Ravens and Detroit Lions.

As good as the Rams have been at preventing teams from racking up yards, they have allowed quite a few points. They rank 14th in the NFL at points allowed with 20.3. That is despite playing the lowest scoring team in the NFL and the 28th scoring team in two of their three games.

The Rams will be able to put up points themselves, especially if they lean on Kyren Williams and the run game. They rank 6th in the NFL in overall rushing efficiency and the Colts rank 27th in overall rushing efficiency on defense.

With both teams having very heavy advantages in the run game against the opposing rush defense, you could see some big runs and fewer slow drives and punts. I will continue to roll with Colts Overs until they stop scoring.
