Early South Carolina vs Alabama spread pick: South Carolina +11.5
It's South Carolina +11.5 or pass for me when it visits Alabama Saturday. If South Carolina's spread gets to +9.5 or lower, I'd look elsewhere.
Firstly, I'm fading the Gamecocks' 41-34 home loss as a 3-point favorite to Mississippi State last week. South Carolina was coming off ugly defeats before facing 'Bama in each of the last two seasons. But the Gamecocks covered as 12.5-point and 21.5-point underdogs and were leading following three quarters in both games.
Second, this is a better South Carolina squad than the ones Alabama faced the last two campaigns. The Gamecocks rank 15th in team talent composite this year, according to 247Sports.com, compared to 18th last year and 21st in 2024. They boast more continuity, too, ranking fifth nationally in returning production, according to ESPN's Bill Connelly.

Early South Carolina vs Alabama total pick: Over 53.5
I lean toward the Over on 53.5, and the highest I'd go is 54.5 because of Alabama's offense, South Carolina's sketchy defense, and the injury situations for both teams.
South Carolina's best defensive lineman, Dylan Stewart, is on a snap count because of a back injury and didn't play in the fourth quarter last week. Crimson Tide RB AK Dear and WR Noah Rogers are on track to make their season debuts Saturday.
Limiting Stewart's snaps could make it even harder for South Carolina to pressure Alabama, especially with 'Bama adding two more weapons to an offense already averaging 47.7 points per game. Mississippi State carved up the Gamecocks last week during South Carolina's first game this season against a Power 4 opponent.
