The weekend wraps up with a late showdown in Honolulu, as the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors host the Sam Houston Bearkats to close out Week 2.
Even with concerns surrounding Rainbow Warriors quarterback Micah Alejado’s health, my Sam Houston vs. Hawaii predictions lean toward the home team.

Sam Houston vs Hawaii best bet: Hawaii moneyline (-114)
The big news heading into this game is the health of Hawaii quarterback Micah Alejado. He was spotted in a walking boot at practice on Tuesday before shedding it later in the week, though Alejado remained sidelined as he continues to battle a high ankle sprain that could derail the Rainbow Warriors' season.
For what it’s worth, I think there’s a very good chance he doesn’t play. He did gut through it last week against Arizona, but Alejado was ineffective and had his foot stepped on, forcing him out of the contest. The backup, Luke Weaver, therefore has game-time experience — plus two weeks of practice with the ones — in which to get more comfortable.
Sam Houston looks like a miserable bunch this season at 0-2, both of which were double-digit losses. The Bearkats lost their last 16 tacklers from a season ago, making this one of the softest defenses in the country, so Hawaii will be able to move the ball regardless of who is the signal caller.
Hawaii’s defense will be the best unit on the field against an SHSU team whose QBs have combined for one touchdown and two interceptions.
Sam Houston vs Hawaii same-game parlay
Even if Alejado plays, he won’t be at full strength, hampering the Run-n-Shoot offense that relies so heavily on his prowess.
Weaver hasn’t shown enough that he can light up the scoreboard, so Hawaii will run the ball more than usual and rely on its underrated defense against an SHSU offense averaging 22.5 ppg.
Hawaii will eventually pull away, but it might be after a sloppy start in which it avoids getting into a shootout with (likely) its backup quarterback.
