Notre Dame vs Boston College picks, predictions November 14

Ian Book led Notre Dame to a stunning double-OT upset of Clemson last week, and won't have a to gun as hard to outscore Boston College in Week 11.

When referring to Notre Dame, we often say the “Irish,” instead of “Fighting Irish” for the sake of ease. And who could blame us? No one wants to hear, “I sure enjoyed watching the Hokies of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University this weekend.”

But the Golden Domers had a gentle reminder for us this past Saturday night—they’ve got plenty of fight this season. Notre Dame upset Clemson 47-40 in double-overtime in an absolutely classic college football game, and now the challenge for the Irish is to continue their push for a national championship without a letdown.

Let’s check out our best college football free picks and predictions for No. 2 Notre Dame at Boston College. Kickoff is set to get underway on Saturday, November 14 at 12:00 p.m. ET in Chestnut Hill.

Against the Spread (ATS) Pick

It’s been easy to doubt the Fighting Irish over the years, as Notre Dame has piled up impressive regular season credentials under Brian Kelly, only to get smashed come playoff time. No longer. The Irish’s dramatic double-overtime win against Clemson vaulted them to the No. 2 spot in the country and served notice that they are finally ready to compete for a national title. Quarterback Ian Book needed to have the game of his life against the Tigers, and he did, going 22-39 for 310 yards and one touchdown, including a clutch 53-yard pass to Avery Davis that set up the game-tying score late in the fourth quarter.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Eagles are coming off a 16-13 victory against Syracuse, improving to 5-3 on the season. Boston College is led by quarterback Phil Jurkovec, who tends to put up better numbers on his home turf. Against the Orange, the Eagles leaned on running back David Bailey and his 125 yards on 25 carries.

This is definitely a rivalry game, and it’s tempting to take the double-digit points with the home underdog in a letdown spot for the Irish. Still, Notre Dame’s defense should be the difference here, given that Boston College’s offensive attack won’t soon be mistaken for Clemson’s. Notre Dame is 4-0 ATS in its last four games against teams with a winning record, and I like them by two touchdowns.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame -13.5 (-110)

Over/Under Pick

You want a trend to back up my pick here? I don’t have it! All of the signs point to the Under being the play, and it’s 8-1 in the last nine meetings between these teams. You’ll get no argument from me if that’s your play. That said, the money has come pouring in on the Over, and I’m betting on a tired Notre Dame defense to give up a late, garbage-time touchdown to push this game past the Total.

PREDICTION: Over 50.5 (-110)

Prop Pick

I realize that saying Book had the “game of his life” amounted to 310 yards passing. However, you have to give the man credit for making plays when it counted most against Clemson, and he’ll still have plenty of support from stud running back Kyren Williams. I don’t think the Boston College defense puts up much of a fight.

PREDICTION: Notre Dame team total Over 30.5 (-131)
