One of the best bowls of the season greets us when the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets meet the BYU Cougars in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

Both of these teams flirted with college football playoff contention but saw their year-end hopes dashed. Each will enter off losses. Tech fell to rival Georgia in a close battle, while Texas Tech blew out BYU in the Big 12 title game.

I break down the matchup in my Georgia Tech vs. BYU college football predictions and college football picks for Saturday, December 27.

Georgia Tech vs BYU predictions for the Pop-Tarts Bowl

Who will win the Pop-Tarts Bowl?

I like the points much more than the moneyline in this spot for a variety of reasons, but if forced to choose, I'd take the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets because I trust the offense more.

Georgia Tech vs BYU best bet: Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets +3.5 (-105)

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets' offense has been the strength of its team all year, which isn't exactly a surprise with quarterback Haynes King leading the way.

The Yellowjackets finished the season ranking T15 in EPA per play and T10 in success rate at 47.4%. The BYU Cougars' defense was an elite group all season, but as the Texas Tech blowout proved, it can be exploited.

The Cougars haven't really seen an offense this good outside of Texas Tech, and a rushing defense that has faltered down the stretch isn't exactly ideal against the rushing attack King can provide.

On the other side, things start to separate a little more. This Georgia Tech defense has been plain bad all season; however, this BYU unit will enter this matchup with key losses.

There was so much thrown on the shoulders of running back LJ Martin this season, who led the Cougs in virtually every offensive usage stat you can find.

Not only did a surgery after the Big 12 Championship game end his season, but it also ended the season of his backup, Sione Moa, who opted for it. That gives me genuine concern in a game where BYU will need to score to keep pace.

So you've got (1) Tech's efficient, stay-on-schedule offense and (2) BYU's offense losing its most consistent offensive player. Even with OC Buster Faulkner departing for Florida, I trust this Georgia Tech offense more, and I'll grab the points.

Georgia Tech vs BYU same-game parlay

Even though I'm backing them to cover, Georgia Tech losing OC Buster Faulkner for this one is a reasonably big deal. Obviously, the players on this team will be well-versed in running his offense. You wonder if it makes them a tick less sharp, leading to drives stalling.

On the other side, as mentioned, BYU being without LJ Martin makes me think they'll struggle to regularly move the chains. Expect this to be a little sloppy at times.
