CFB Week 8 preview with Andrew Caley and Douglas Farmer

Texas vs Kentucky best bet

Texas -12.5 (-115 at FanDuel)

Everyone has their weaknesses, but some are more legendary than others. Superman has Kryptonite. Achilles had his heel. Mark Stoops has bye weeks. Since taking the head coaching job at Kentucky ahead of the 2013 season, the Wildcats are just 4-13 against the spread in his 17 games following a bye.

Tennessee vs Alabama best bet

Alabama team total Over 34.5 (-108 at FanDuel)

Alabama's passing offence is starting to find its rhythm with Ty Simpson and his trio of receivers. They lead the nation in EPA per dropback and face a Tennessee defense that ranks 75th in success rate, and has surrendered 31 or more points in three straight conference games.

See our full analysis and Volunteers/Crimson Tide SGP in our Tennessee vs. Alabama predictions.

USC vs Notre Dame best bet

USC +9.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

The oddsmakers see a Fighting Irish team that is 14-4 ATS in its last 18 games hosting a USC team that has struggled in road games on a night when adverse weather conditions are expected. However, I see an inflated line in a rivalry game.

See our full analysis and Trojans/Fighting Irish SGP in our USC vs. Notre Dame predictions.

Missouri vs Auburn best bet

Beau Pribula Over 1.5 touchdown passes (+198 at FanDuel)

Auburn has had some issues slowing down opposing passing attacks, ranking 59th in success rate on dropbacks, while Pribula has been the engine for Missouri's offense, throwing for 1,365 yards and completing nearly 73% of his passes — with 11 going for touchdowns.

See our full analysis and Tigers/Tigers SGP in our Missouri vs. Auburn predictions.

Utah vs BYU best bet

Utah -3.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

BYU gave up 21 points and 172 rushing yards to Kaidon Salter and Colorado, and then 24 points to West Virginia and third-string QB Khalil Wilkins. Devon Dampier and the Utes are a much better offense than those two teams.

Cincinnati vs Oklahoma State best bet

Under 54.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

The Cowboys rank No. 135 in early-downs EPA, suggesting they are behind the chains almost by default, and then also No. 130 in late-downs success — no surprise given how far behind the chains they are... almost by default.

See Douglas' full analysis — and the rest of his best bets — in his college football predictions for Week 8.

Florida State vs Stanford best bet

Ben Gulbranson Over 215.5 passing yards (-114 at FanDuel)

The Seminoles allow just 78 rushing yards per game, forcing opponents to attack downfield, where they’ve given up an average of 11.8 yards per completion. Gulbranson has quietly found his rhythm, throwing for 225+ yards in three straight games, and he’ll likely surpass 35 attempts here with Stanford playing catch-up.
