The Utah Runnin' Utes travel to Seattle to face the Washington Huskies in a game that would have been a Pac-12 contest before realignment. Now, it serves as the final non-conference test for both programs.
It’s also the last opportunity for both teams to post a win. Utah may be favored in two of its 18 Big 12 games, and Washington in two of its next 11 Big Ten games.
Both teams have played major conference foes close this year. That changes tonight, as my Utah at Washington predictions and college basketball picks call for Washington to win by double digits on Monday, December 29.
Utah vs Washington prediction
Utah vs Washington best bet: Washington -11 (-110)
The Utah Runnin' Utes have played three power conference teams, beating Mississippi by one and losing to California and Mississippi State by single-digit margins.
However, the Washington Huskies will be the best team the Utes have faced this season, ranking 13 spots over Cal in the KenPom ratings and 16 spots higher in Torvik.
Half of Utah’s non-conference games have been against teams ranked 200 or lower in the nation. This will be a Quad 1 opponent, on the road, in Utah’s only game of the holiday season. The Utes last played on December 20 and play next on January 3.
Rust and focus will be an issue.
Washington is also playing its only game of the holiday break, but the Huskies have two Big Ten conference games under their belt. Washington has faced five major conference foes in its last 10 games, going 3-2 against the spread. That’s as many ATS wins as Utah has in its last 10, against a schedule that included Eastern Washington, Cal Baptist, Cal Poly, Sam Houston, and Purdue Fort Wayne.
With four rotation players at 6-foot-10 or taller, Washington should have a significant edge on the boards, with Utah’s tallest regular being 6-foot-9.
Washington is No. 19 in offensive rebounding rate and No. 35 in defensive boards. Utah ranks in the 200s in both and is nearly 10 percentage points worse on offensive rebounding rate.

Utah vs Washington same-game parlay
Utah has gone Over in eight of its last 10 and has allowed its previous four opponents to score 77+.
Cal and Mississippi were lower-scoring games for the Utes, but both of those teams play at a tempo ranked lower than 200th in the country. Washington went Over in both Big Ten games and has scored 80+ in four of five and seven of nine. Utah’s shaky defense is the biggest factor pushing this game Over.
The odds on the Hannes Steinbach rebounding prop gave a little bit of a “what am I missing?” scare. He’s averaging 12.1 boards on the season and had 15 against Baylor, 13 against Washington State, and 16 against USC. He’s two inches taller than any Utah defender, and the Huskies should handily win the rebounding battle.

Our beyond the arc SGP: Steinbach Does it all
Undersized Utah will likely try to collapse on Steinbach when he gets the ball inside. The Utes are No. 224 in the nation in 3-point defense, so look for Steinbach to kick to the perimeter. Twelve of his 21 assists on the season are for 3-pointers, eight of them by Washington’s top 3-point threats — Quimari Peterson and Wesley Yates.
