The NIT gets going with two styles clashing: St. Thomas, which features a highly efficient offense, and Seattle, with an elite defense.

We expect the Seattle defense to win out in this matchup as the Redhawks take care of business.

My Saint Thomas vs. Seattle predictions and college basketball picks break down how Seattle will grind out a win tonight.

St. Thomas vs Seattle prediction

Who will win St. Thomas vs Seattle?

Seattle will win the game. I still think the Tommies will really struggle to score, and the Redhawks can find enough offense to push them over the line. Outside of the powerhouse matchups, St. Thomas struggled against pretty much any defense of note this season, and they’ll see another tonight.

St. Thomas vs Seattle best bet: Seattle moneyline (-115)

The defensive gap between these teams is enormous.

The Seattle Redhawks rank 18th nationally in adjusted defense according to BartTorvik. By any objective metric, this is a legit high-level defense while the other side is slightly below average.

The Redhawks smother perimeter creation at one of the highest rates in college basketball. Unfortunately for the St. Thomas Tommies, this is a place they're both reliant on and effective scoring, while Seattle erases it.

I think this is likely an ugly game for long stretches, and I’ll back the best unit on the floor by far: The Redhawks defense.

Covers COVERS INTEL: This St. Thomas defense allows .90 points per possession on post-ups (Bottom 20th percentile). Seattle runs post-ups at 9.8 possessions per 100, by far its highest-volume half-court action.

St. Thomas vs Seattle same-game parlay

Seattle moneyline

Brayden Maldonado Over 14.5 points

This is an extremely natural pairing. Maldonado is Seattle’s best player and perhaps will be the best scorer on the floor for either team tonight.

I’m taking him to exceed his points total. St. Thomas has a pretty average defense and is particularly poor at the rim, a place where Maldonado gets his.

Our beyond the arc SGP: Big game Brayden

Seattle -1

Under 147

Brayden Maldonado Over 14.5 points

Brayden Maldonado Over 3.5 rebounds

For the reasons outlined in my best bet, the Under seems a natural fit. I projected this number at 145, and given the struggles, I’m inclined to agree with that projection.

I paired that with Maldonado to go Over 3.5 rebounds. St. Thomas doesn’t make much of an effort to crash the glass, and a Top 50 3-point rate from the Tommies means a ton of long rebounds.
