The ACC/SEC Challenge gets going tonight and brings us several entertaining matchups, one of which will be Notre Dame hosting Missouri.

The Tigers have played next to no real competition, but enter this one 8-0. After a 1-2 trip at the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas, the Irish will enter this game with three losses.

With these two teams feeling fairly even, my Missouri vs. Notre Dame predictions explore the player prop market to find an edge.

I break it all down in my free college basketball picks for Tuesday, December 2.

Missouri vs Notre Dame prediction

Missouri vs Notre Dame best bet: Mark Mitchell over 5.5 rebounds (-125)

Initially, I leaned toward Missouri pretty heavily here because of the schematic advantages the Tigers have. There's a reason to pause, though.

It’s the first real road test for the Tigers; they haven’t really played much competition, and, for my money, Notre Dame has a more talented head coach. With all of that in mind, I pivoted to the prop market and took Mark Mitchell to go over 5.5 rebounds as my best bet.

He’s been averaging a bit over six rebounds per game so far, so the 5.5 line already sits slightly below his season baseline even before we talk matchup or price. For me, this is one of the areas where competition can be used to make the case that the number is a floor rather than a ceiling. That’s because the lack of competitiveness in these games has meant that both Mitchell’s intensity level and minutes have been a little lower than usual.

Notre Dame’s defense is structurally solid but leaks on rebound and scramble plays; they can force the first miss yet struggle to finish possessions, exactly the phase where Mitchell thrives. Missouri’s offense is designed to attack the paint and force help rotations, which naturally will create long, weak-side rebound opportunities, and enter a long, rangy guard like Mitchell crashing from the perimeter.

This feels like one of the most assured elements in tonight’s matchup, whether Missouri wins or loses.

Missouri vs Notre Dame same-game parlay

I’ll take Missouri to win here. I simply think they are the more complete team that has a variety of ways of grabbing a win. It certainly won’t be easy, as I do believe the Irish have the best scorer on the floor in Markus Burton. Tactically, though, this is a rough matchup for Notre Dame.

I finished up with Jalen Haralson to go under his points total. A no-nonsense pick here. This number is over his season average, and he’s an extremely rim-reliant player, which is an area that the Missouri defense profiles extremely well in.

Our beyond the arc SGP: TEASER

This is a little light on the rebounding total for Burton. He, like Mitchell, attacks the boards at an extremely high clip, and rebound + scramble plays have been a big part of the Irish offensive attack. I’ll take a stab at this number.

I’ll also take Burton to eclipse his three-point total. As mentioned previously, he’s the most skilled offensive scorer on the floor, and with Missouri having such elite rim defensive numbers, I think we’ll see him settle for some threes more often. With an increase in volume comes an increase in the likelihood of exceeding this number.
