It’s a battle between the two premier programs in the DMV, as the Georgetown Hoyas visit the Maryland Terrapins tonight.

Both teams opened their respective seasons with a win, but the books have Maryland as healthy 6.5-point favorites in the NCAA odds.

My Georgetown vs. Maryland predictions and free college basketball picks have the Hoyas mucking up the game, with defense and bad shots and keeping the score low on Friday, November 7.

Georgetown vs Maryland prediction

Georgetown vs Maryland best bet: Under 146.5 (-110)

There’s some extra buzz around the Georgetown Hoyas after winning an exhibition game at Rupp Arena, downing the Kentucky Wildcats 84-70.

They carried that momentum into the season opener, hammering Morgan State 87-70.

Georgetown held the Bears to just 39.7% shooting from the field and turned them over 16 times, converting those into 29 points.

If there was one glaring issue with the Hoyas, it was their inability to hit the 3-ball, going just 4-for-26 in the opener, a paltry 15.4% clip.

While that was no issue with Morgan State, it could be with the Maryland Terrapins, if they aren’t able to run them off the arc.

The Terps were splashing in their season-opening 83-61 win against the Coppin State Eagles, finishing the night an impressive 10-for-29 from downtown.

Defensively, they also turned Coppin State over 20 times, leading to 30 points, while outrunning the Eagles 14-5 in fast-break points.

It’s still early, and Maryland is working on an entirely new roster with a new head coach in Buzz Williams. While that can work with Coppin State, the level-up might be an issue.

It’s been a slow and steady climb for the Hoyas since Ed Cooley took over at the start of the 2023-24 season, and they’re coming off the first winning season since the 2018-19 campaign.

With their 3-ball not dropping (so far), look for Georgetown to rely on their defense and turn this one into a rockfight.

Georgetown vs Maryland same-game parlay

Georgetown had plenty of practice playing as an underdog last year. The Hoyas finished their regular season covering the spread seven times in their last 10 games as betting underdogs.

The Hoyas had a sturdy 18-16 record against the spread a year ago, and they should be just fine against a tough team in a tough environment. They were also 8-5 ATS as road underdogs and should be ready on Friday.

Maryland was a Top 3 scorer in the Big Ten last season and scored at least 70 points eight times in their last 10 regular season games a year ago. This would be about the only time I’d consider it a value wager to take this team Under now, with a new roster and a gritty Big East team coming to their barn.
