If the No. 6 seed DePaul Blue Demons want to claim their first winning season in seven years, it wouldn’t hurt to notch a victory over the No. 11 seed Georgetown Hoyas in the nightcap of the First Round of the Big East Tournament on Wednesday.

The 16-15 Blue Demons were atop the 14-17 Hoyas for much of the year, but the margin for error is slim in a tightly-lined game with DePaul favored by 1.5 points.

Read on to see why my DePaul vs. Georgetown predictions & college basketball picks for Wednesday, March 11, are backing Chris Holtmann’s squad as the short favorite.

DePaul is a Big East power.

Wait, let me rephrase that. DePaul is a power at covering spreads in the Big East Tournament.

The Blue Demons have covered each of their last five games in this tournament at Madison Square Garden with an average cover margin of 11 points.

That includes 2025’s outright upset of Georgetown (+5) and near-upset of Creighton in overtime (+13) and 2024’s one-point loss against Villanova (+24.5).

Their defense, which ranks 27th in adjusted efficiency over the last month (BartTorvik), is the strongest unit on the court and limited the Hoyas to 60.0 ppg in the two regular-season matchups.

DePaul vs Georgetown same-game parlay

Given DePaul’s strong defensive tendencies, the Under correlates best with a Blue Demons cover.

Both regular-season meetings hit the Under with an average margin of 23.5 points. Georgetown is 4-10 O/U in games away from home, while DePaul isn’t much different at 4-9 O/U.

Holtmann’s squad likes to slow the game down, ranking 239th in adjusted tempo. That style of play is typically exemplified in the first half of games, when the Blue Demons have hit the Under in 16 of their last 25 games.
