When the powers that be set up the NBA Cup, this was the type of final they were hoping for.

The New York Knicks going up against future-face-of-the-league Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio Spurs, all under the bright lights of Las Vegas.

And while New York might be playing better basketball than anyone at the moment, Wemby & Co. are coming off a massive upset of the seemingly unbeatable Thunder.

My Spurs vs. Knicks predictions and NBA picks break down this epic NBA Cup Finals matchup below.

Spurs vs Knicks prediction

Spurs vs Knicks best bet: Knicks -2.5 (-115)

Victor Wembanyama gave us a glimpse of the future when he led the San Antonio Spurs to a shocking 111-109 upset as 10-point underdogs over the Thunder in the NBA Cup semifinals.

However, the Spurs will face consecutive tough matchups, as the New York Knicks, winners of nine of their last 10 outright and against the spread, are arguably playing better basketball than anyone in the NBA at the moment.

So, how will this clash be decided? My bet is that the 3-point line will be the key.

Both teams rely on the 3-ball. San Antonio ranks ninth in both 3-point makes per game and 3-point percentage. New York ranks fourth and sixth in those categories.

However, both could also improve their numbers when it comes to defending the 3-point line. San Antonio ranks 26th in opponent 3-point shooting percentage and 22nd in made threes per game. New York is 16th and 24th.

Here's the difference: OG Anunoby has returned for the Knicks recently and dramatically improved their perimeter defense. During this 10-game stretch, New York leads the NBA in opponent 3-point shooting percentage at just 32%.

The Knicks are the better shooting team overall and have the better perimeter defense. On top of that, I think this line is a little bit of an overreaction to San Antonio's win over OKC.

With that being the case, I’ll lay the points with New York at less than one possession, as the Knicks win their first trophy for anything in a long, long time.

Spurs vs Knicks same-game parlay

I wrote about how OG Anunoby’s defense, but remember, he's a true 3-and-D threat, too. He's a career 37.7% shooting, and that's up to 40.8% in 16 games this season. He's also 9-for-17 (52.9%) from beyond the arc over his last three games, hitting 3+ twice during that stretch.

And you know we have to include Wemby, who hauled down nine rebounds in just 20 minutes of action against the Thunder. With some added minutes in this game, he should hit double digits on the glass tonight.
