It's a crosstown rivalry game tonight as the New York Knicks play host to the Brooklyn Nets.
New York hasn't been consistent enough on offense to blow out teams, and I'm taking Brooklyn to cover in my Nets vs. Knicks prediction.
Let's break down all my free NBA picks for Monday, Nov. 2.
TOP PICK
Nets vs Knicks prediction: Nets +14.5
The New York Knicks have underperformed early in their title defense, going 2-4 straight up and 1-5 ATS to start the year. The Knicks rank 29th in the NBA in true shooting percentage (53.1%), and while their defense has been better — New York ranks 12th in defensive efficiency — they aren't doing enough to blow out opponents and have yet to win a game by more than 14 points.
Make no mistake: the Brooklyn Nets are bad, ranking in the bottom 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency. But only two of their losses have come by double digits, and I have serious questions about New York's offense right now.
The Knicks should win this game, but I'm taking the Nets to cover getting +12.5 or more.

Nets vs Knicks combo
Both the Nets and the Knicks are coming off games in which neither team nor its opponent reached 100 points. The same thing happened when these teams last faced off during the previous season. I'm backing the Under tonight.
I'll also trade on Michael Porter Jr. to hit at least three shots from deep. Porter has made at least three 3-pointers in four of his six games to start the season, and he averaged 3.4 made threes per game last year. He's attempting nearly nine shots per game from beyond the arc, making me confident he can keep up that production.
Nets vs Knicks combo
- Nets +14.5
- Under 219.5
- Michael Porter Jr. 3+ threes
Nets vs Knicks player props
Nets player prop: Michael Porter Jr. 20+ points
Porter was one of the few bright spots for the Nets last year, averaging 24.2 ppg to set a new career high for the former Denver Nugget. While Porter is getting more support this season — Julius Randle is likely to lead Brooklyn in scoring on plenty of nights — the early signs are still good for Porter to be a reliable 20+ point pick.
Porter is averaging 21.2 ppg to start the season and has reached the 20-point mark four times already. With the Knicks playing some fairly mediocre defense, I see Porter as a good bet to score 20+ points at up to 55%.
Knicks player prop: Jalen Brunson 6+ assists
The Knicks may be off to a slow start, and Jalen Brunson has shared in those shooting woes. He's hitting just 39.5% of his shots, by far the lowest rate of his career, even if he's still putting up 25.5 ppg.
But Brunson's passing is less likely to slump. While he wasn't distributing the ball well during New York's season-opening three-game losing streak, he's dished out at least six assists in each of his last three games. Expect that approach to continue, as I'm backing Brunson to record 6+ assists at up to 67%.
