Hawks vs Pacers prediction: Hawks -5.5
I’d stick with the Atlanta Hawks against the spread into the 53% range or until the moneyline falls below 60%.
The Indiana Pacers lost their fourth straight game on Sunday and have now given two different last-place teams their only wins of the young season. In addition to twin eight-point losses to the now 1-5 Bucks and Nets, Indiana also lost to sub-.500 Miami.
Atlanta has lost four of its last five, but that stretch came against teams with a combined 16-10 record. The Hawks also beat 4-2 Cleveland over that span.
Both teams have lost key players.
Indiana will play without Tyrese Haliburton, TJ McConnell, and Ivica Zubac, although Obi Toppin, who missed the last two games, could return. Atlanta might also have to do without Jalen Johnson and some frontcourt depth players.
The Hawks are better equipped to withstand their absences and will cover the 5.5-point spread as a result.
COVERS INTEL: The Hawks still have a lopsided advantage at guard. Atlanta leads the NBA in assists and is in the Top 5 in both protecting the ball and forcing turnovers. They’re also eighth in steals and have a top-10 perimeter defense.

While the Hawks have been led by their guard play, the offense will likely take a hit from backup point guard Kingston Flemings' one-game suspension. If Johnson is also sidelined, Atlanta will be without its two assist leaders.
Of course, they’re also the team's two leaders in turnovers committed, so it’s not all bad news for the Hawks. Atlanta has gone Under in its last two, while the Pacers have gone Under in three of the four games during the current losing streak.
Both teams have struggled with sluggish starts. In their last game, the Hawks fell behind New Orleans 35-18 after the first quarter. They also trailed Miami by 13 at the half two games ago. The Pacers average three fewer points in the first half than they do in the second.

Assuming Johnson sits, the Hawks will be down 14.6 assists from their season average from Johnson, Flemings, and Landale.
