New Orleans Pelicans vs Minnesota Timberwolves
Steven Adams is averaging 9.5 rebounds per game this season for the Pelicans, but he has had two games with at least 15 boards in the last week. The sportsbooks have reacted by setting his total at 10.5 tonight—but that shouldn’t turn anybody off.
On the year, the Timberwolves have the worst defensive rebound percentage in all of basketball, and the team is still without star center Karl-Anthony Towns, who is dealing with the coronavirus. In his place, Minnesota has turned to Naz Reid, who doesn’t jump particularly well, and Jarred Vanderbilt, who is energetic but undersized.
If Adams doesn’t hit this Over, it would be rather surprising—the T-wolves just don’t have the personnel to match up with him in the paint right now.
PREDICTION: Steven Adams Over 10.5 Rebounds (+102)
Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks
There’s no guarantee Dallas guard Jalen Brunson will start against the Rockets tonight, but it’s still worth taking a chance on his point total.
The 24-year-old is coming off of a 16-point performance against the Spurs, where he hit a dagger three to help Dallas win that game. Brunson is averaging 16.0 points per game over the last three contests and Rick Carlisle has responded to his hot streak by playing him a ton of minutes.
With the way Luka Doncic is seeing the floor, Brunson should get a few open looks against a mediocre Rockets defense, while he is also good enough to create his own looks against Houston’s guards.
PREDICTION: Jalen Brunson Over 12.5 Points (-116)
Los Angeles Lakers vs Chicago Bulls
Zach LaVine hasn’t had fewer than five assists in a game since January 6, and he has topped five dimes in 10 of his last 12 contests. Against a team as good as the Lakers, LaVine will be counted on to make the right play in order to keep the game close.
On top of making smart decisions, the Lakers play overall superb defense, which will pressure LaVine to quickly get the ball out of his hands a bit more. That might turn into nothing, but it also leads to more opportunities for his teammates.
LaVine recently faced this Los Angeles team at the Staples Center on January 8 and the Bulls star had six assists in that game. There’s no reason he can’t do so again at home.
