We ring in the New Year with two of the most exciting young players in the NBA facing off when Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers visit Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks on New Year’s Day.

The Mavs’ New Year's resolution should be to leave everything besides Flagg in the past. The future superstar is having an outstanding rookie season, and my 76ers vs. Mavericks predictions highlight a player prop I love for Flagg in this matchup.

That and more NBA picks for Thursday, January 1.

76ers vs Mavericks prediction

76ers vs Mavericks best bet: Cooper Flagg Over 6.5 rebounds (+110)

Cooper Flagg is having a standout rookie campaign and is giving Dallas Mavericks fans at least some hope about the future and the ability to forget that the team traded away Luka Doncic in 2025.

So, 2026 and beyond are all about Flagg. The just-turned-19-year-old is averaging 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.0 assists so far during his rookie campaign, and in today’s matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, I like him to keep cleaning the glass.

Even with Joel Embiid, the Sixers are a subpar rebounding team. They begin 2026 ranked 17th in rebounding rate and 22nd in opponent rebounds per game. And Embiid is a little hobbled (surprise, surprise), listed as day-to-day with a knee injury.

And even with Tyrese Maxey, the 76ers have the fourth-worst effective field goal percentage in the NBA. That means lots of bricks up for grabs.

Give me Flagg to go Over his rebounding total of 6.5 at plus money.

76ers vs Mavericks same-game parlay

Let’s have some fun on this New Year’s Day matchup by adding a couple of players to go over their point total, starting with the Mavs' P.J. Washington.

He remains an important role player for Dallas, averaging 15.4 points per game. Still, P.J. Washington is priced at a modest 12.5 points against a Philadelphia defense that’s average at best.

Washington has gone Over this number in 13 of his last 16 games, including going for 15 points in a Dec. 20 meeting against this same Sixers team.

Speaking of that game, Tyrese Maxey, who is averaging better than 30 points per game this season, went off for 38 points and has topped this point prop of 27.5 in eight of his last 11 games overall.
