The New York Yankees will aim for a sweep of the Minnesota Twins this evening, but they’ll face their toughest test of the series with the Twins sending Joe Ryan to the mound.

My Twins vs. Yankees predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks for Wednesday, August 13, featuring a fast start for Minnesota.

Twins vs Yankees prediction

Twins vs Yankees best bet: Twins F5 moneyline (+102 at FanDuel)

I’ll bite on the Minnesota Twins once again even though they came up short last night. My projections make the Twins a slight favorite in the first five innings market, so getting them at a plus-money price is too generous to pass up.

Joe Ryan mans the hill for the Twins today and will come into the game with a sizable advantage over his young counterpart, Cam Schlitter. Before comparing the two, though, let’s talk about his advantages in this matchup.

Ryan does the things that you need to do to slow this New York Yankees offense well enough. He keeps hard hits around league average and doesn’t give up many longballs.

More importantly, he has once again been an elite strikeout pitcher, as he’ll enter this game in the eighth percentile of baseball in K-rate. Against a Yankees team that continues to swing and miss at a high clip, he feels like a strong antidote to silence their bats — at least through five innings.

The Yankees will enter this game 10th in whiff rate and inside the Top 10 in a host of other strikeout metrics. But putting that into “what have you done lately for me” terms, those numbers drift to the Top-7 range.

Ryan has faced seven teams in the Top 10 in whiff rate this season. In those starts, he’s allowed seven runs in 36 innings. Four of those runs came in a five-inning appearance against the Athletics.

I’ll back him on the mound today with an average Twins offense giving him just enough support.

Twins vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

Twins F5 -0.5

Joe Ryan 10+ strikeouts

We have to use the three-way F5 moneyline in this SGP. I also added Ryan 10+ strikeouts to this.

Ryan has struck out 11 in three of the seven starts against teams in the Top 10 in whiff rate, and I think the number for this prop should be closer to +380. I’ll take a shot.
