The Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox have only played each other in one series this season. It featured a ton of fireworks, with 46 runs being scored over three games, while each game went over the total.

My Tigers vs. Red Sox predictions expect that trend to continue in a crucial series between two sides desperate to sneak into the playoffs. Let’s take a closer look at my September 26 MLB picks.

Tigers vs Red Sox prediction

Tigers vs Red Sox best bet: Over 8.5 (-120)

Casey Mize has had a decent season, but his numbers are heading in the wrong direction. His ERA is nearly 5.00 over the past month, and his FIP is well above 4.00. He is not pitching overly well.

The Boston Red Sox should cause him real problems. They are tied for fourth in runs per game this season and, even without Roman Anthony, are still plenty capable of producing offense.

Only the Phillies have a higher team batting average vs. right-handed pitching this month. The Red Sox also rank Top-10 in both wOBA and SLG. They should score on Mize and a struggling bullpen that ranks 26th in FIP since August 1.

Although the Detroit Tigers haven’t lit it up of late, they’re in a sneaky good spot as well against lefty Kyle Harrison. The Tigers sit third in OPS and wOBA vs. left-handed pitching over the past seven weeks.

Gleyber Torres, Jahmai Jones, and Wenceel Perez have all proven a thorn in the side for lefties, and they have plenty of stars surrounding them in the order.

Don’t be surprised if the offenses win out and this turns into a high-scoring affair.

Tigers vs Red Sox same-game parlay (SGP)

Trevor Story is among those driving the bus for the Red Sox down the stretch. He has hit safely in nine of the last 10, producing multiple bases in six of them.

His hit rate is 13% higher when playing on home soil, and he’s at his best when facing right-handed pitchers like Mize.

Torres is a menace against lefties. He’s hit .287 with a .235 ISO and posted a strikeout rate of just 14%.
