Remember when the Colorado Rockies beat the Los Angeles Dodgers on Opening Day? Well, the sky wasn’t falling. In fact, the Rockies have only two wins since then while the Dodgers have taken just one more L.

So, unsurprisingly, the Dodgers will once again be massive baseball betting favorites, but is this one of those times when we can hop on the value with the underdog Rockies?

Check out our free MLB picks and predictions for Rockies vs. Dodgers on Thursday, April 15, with the first pitch scheduled for 10:10 p.m. ET.

Starting pitchers

Austin Gomber (0-2, 2.89 ERA): Gomber carries the weight of being part of what was considered well, um, an underwhelming return for former Rockies star Nolan Arenado. The 27-year-old left-hander did a decent job in limited work in 2020 and is coming off a solid effort against the Giants, allowing just two runs in 6 1-3 innings. But Gomber has been battling his control, surrendering 11 walks in 9 1-3 innings this season. He’ll need to cut those down to be successful against the Dodgers.

Julio Urias (2-0, 2.84 ERA): This might finally be the year where we get a full season of Urias as a starter and the early returns are very promising. Urias has a 1.03 WHIP to go along with that 2.84 ERA and is creating a lot of soft contact by mixing his four-seam fastball with a filthy curveball and a changeup that falls off the table.

Runline pick

Yup, it’s the old David vs. Goliath metaphor for this matchup. But the question is, is David getting enough value to back him in this matchup?

Well, as noted, the Dodgers have won five in a row and 10 of their last 11 games since that Opening Day defeat, including taking the first two games of this series by a combined score of 11-2.

The L.A. offense ranks third in scoring, first in batting average and OPS, and hardly strikes out. Now it gets to face Gomber, who last met the Dodgers on April 4, where he allowed just one earned run on one hit over three innings but surrendered a whopping seven walks. He won’t be so lucky this time around if he can’t find the zone again.

Meanwhile, a subpar Rockies offense has to deal with Urias, who allowed just one run on three hits while striking out six when he faced them in that same April 4th matchup.

While -270 is far too much to lay with the Dodgers in this spot, eight of their 10 wins have come by two runs or more, so we're taking them on the runline once again.

PREDICTION: Dodgers -1.5 (-125)

Over/Under pick

At 7.5, the total for this National League West matchup is an interesting one, considering the Dodgers’ offense is involved. The Dodgers are more than capable of taking this one over by themselves and average 5.7 runs per game.

But the number is this low likely due to the fact the Rockies have scored just six total runs in their last five games and the Under is 7-0 in their last seven games overall. That said, the Rockies likely only need a couple of runs to send this one above the number. This total is low enough that we like the chances of that happening.

PREDICTION: Over 7.5 (-110)
