Eduardo Rodriguez (6-4, 5.42 ERA): Rodriguez is coming off his best start of the entire season, as he threw six innings of shutout ball in a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. Rodriguez struck out six batters in that game, and he will be hoping to ride that momentum into this start against the Angels. The lefty does, however, have a 5.56 ERA on the road.
Andrew Heaney (4-6, 5.40 ERA): Heaney has been a disaster of late, as he has allowed 12 earned runs over his last two starts. The 30-year-old pitched just three innings against the Yankees in his last trip to the hill, and the Angels need him to be a bit better at limiting his mistakes moving forward. Heaney has given up five homers over the last two games, which can obviously doom his team rather quickly.

Most of the time, the outcome of a game can come down to matchups, and the Angels have one that needs to be taken seriously in this one. While Jose Iglesias is far from being a superstar, the 31-year-old is 4 for 9 with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs against Rodriguez in his career. On top of the usual band of Los Angeles contributors — like David Fletcher, Jared Walsh and Shohei Ohtani — Iglesias could be a huge X-factor in a game that the Angels look like a great value to win. Los Angeles’ offense showed its strength on Tuesday night, and the team should keep it up here.
The Red Sox have hit lefties really well all year, so this definitely seems like a good matchup for them on paper. However, Marwin Gonzalez is banged up coming into this game, and he’s 3 for 12 with a double, a homer and four RBIs against Heaney in his career. Without those homers and runs batted in, the only players that have really gotten to Heaney in this lineup are Xander Bogaerts and J.D. Martinez. Bogaerts is 0 for 8 in this series, so the lefty is catching him at the right time. Also, Martinez is just 3 for his last 16 coming into this game, so he’s also not too hot at the moment.
Boston is a very good team, so it’s always possible that this group will get it going. But Los Angeles’ value is just hard to pass up here.

Each of the first two games in this series went Under the total, so both of these offenses should be due for a high-scoring game. Sure, the Angels look like they are better equipped to come away with the win in this one, but that doesn’t mean that both teams aren’t capable of scoring here. Two of Heaney’s last three starts would have gone Over at this number, and Rodriguez’s starts had gone Over this number in six straight before he turned in a gem against the Athletics. Look for both offenses to put a decent number on the scoreboard this afternoon.
