Manny Machado has gotten off to a great start offensively. He’s currently on track to post his highest batting average and on-base percentage since 2020, his second season in San Diego.
My Padres vs. Giants predictions expect him to continue making noise at the dish on Tuesday night.
Let’s take a closer look at my MLB picks for June 3.
Padres vs Giants prediction
My Padres vs Giants best bet: Manny Machado Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-125 at bet365)
San Francisco Giants starter Landon Roupp has a unique pitching arsenal. The fastball is not part of the equation for him, and he doesn’t throw many cutters. Instead, Roupp tries to slow down hitters with curveballs, sinkers, and changeups.
The San Diego Padres don’t have many hitters who excel against that mix, but Manny Machado is one of the exceptions.
Machado is hitting .304 against those pitches on the season, and his expected batting average of .337 suggests it’s no fluke. Quite the contrary – he probably deserves even better results.
Machado hasn’t hit for a ton of power against that mix, but he’s rarely struck out and consistently makes good contact, allowing for him to hit for such a high average.
He has been a force in the H+R+R market all season long, clearing his line at a remarkably 67% clip while averaging 2.3 along the way. His hit rate – and per game average – is actually higher in road games.
Roupp has allowed a .289 batting average against righties like Machado. He’s done a good job of limiting power but the hits have been there consistently.
Machado is hitting better than .300 against righties on the season and profiles well against Roupp.
Surrounded by so much talent near the top of the Padres lineup, it may only take one hit to get the job done.
Padres vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)
Willy Adames is not having a great season, but this is a good spot to back him. He has at least one hit in 68% of home games when facing a right-handed starter, including seven hits spanning his last six under such circumstances.
He has hit the ball a lot better in San Francisco this year, and that continues to be the case. He’s averaged 1.3 hard hits over his last 10 games on home soil compared to 0.5 per game over the same span on the road. Night and day.
Jung Hoo Lee is also a priority target. He’s been a hit machine, recording at least one knock in a healthy 76% of his appearances.
Isolating home games against right-handed starters, as we did with Adames, his numbers also soar.
Lee has averaged 1.3 hits per game and recorded at least one hit in 17 of 19, suitable for a sparkling 89% hit rate (no pun intended).
With no notable starter pitching for either team, the bats seem worth backing in this one.
