The Baltimore Orioles have dropped five games in a row and eight of the last 10, including their series opener in San Francisco.
Led by Gunnar Henderson and Trevor Rogers, my Orioles vs. Giants predictions expect the road side to get back on track on Saturday. Let’s break things down with my August 30 MLB picks.
Orioles vs Giants prediction
Orioles vs Giants best bet: Gunnar Henderson Over 1.5 hits + runs + RBI (-130)
Gunnar Henderson has always performed better against right-handed pitching, but his splits this season have grown even more drastic.
Henderson has managed just a .218 average and .103 ISO against lefties compared to a .307 average and .225 ISO vs. righties.
The good news for Henderson is the San Francisco Giants will open with right-handed Carson Seymour, and there should be plenty of right-handed relievers to follow.
He enters play in good form against pitchers of that handedness. Henderson has a .353 OBP and .224 ISO against righties in August.
The underlying data is encouraging as well. We’ve seen an average exit velocity above 94 miles per hour over Henderson’s last 25 at bats vs. right-handed pitchers.
Henderson has hit .290 or better against two of Seymour’s three most-used pitches. While the Giants have a good bullpen behind him, their xFIP is nearly a full run higher than their ERA over the last 30 days. A bat like Henderson's could cause some problems.
Orioles vs Giants same-game parlay (SGP)
Trevor Rogers has been lights-out all season long.
He is sporting an absurdly impressive 1.40 ERA and 0.83 WHIP through 13 starts on the year. Opponents haven’t touched him in months, with Rogers allowing two runs or fewer in 11 straight games.
Taking it a step further, Rogers has allowed just six runs over his last seven starts while completing no less than six innings in any of them. He is routinely pitching deep into games and giving opposing offenses nothing.
Given how well effective he is preventing runs, the Baltimore Orioles have a strong chance of winning in a low-scoring affair.
