The New York Yankees will go for a sweep this afternoon against the Washington Nationals. With the offense rolling, we suspect they’ll get it.

My Nationals vs. Yankees predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks for Wednesday, August 27.

Nationals vs Yankees prediction

Nationals vs Yankees best bet: Yankees -1.5 (-130)

From the time I started writing this article to the time I finished, my best bet of New York Yankees -1.5 had moved ten cents. But it’s still well off my projected fair price of -144, which gives us plenty of value to spare.

I hesitate to say the Yankees are “back” because they’ve mostly beaten average-to-bad teams during this late-season revival. That was reaffirmed last weekend when the Boston Red Sox took three of four from them.

Despite that, you can certainly make the argument that the offensive firepower has returned. We spent a long portion of the season expecting the offense to positively regress, and over the last 10 games, the Bombers have scored double-digits three times while averaging just over six runs.

I trust Yankees pitcher Max Fried to deliver today, despite his recent struggles, because of the strong ground ball peripherals against a Washington Nationals team that hits them at an above-average rate.

Perhaps most importantly, I expect them to have strong success against Nationals starter Cade Cavalli. His below-average hard-hit rate and heavy fastball usage are key things the Yankees’ hot offense can exploit.

Nationals vs Yankees same-game parlay (SGP)

I projected 4.2 Ks for Cavalli, but with the momentum this Yankees offense has right now, I think they may run him from the game quickly, giving us an even better edge.

I finish with the noncorrelated leg of Ryan McMahon to go hitless. McMahon is the worst curveball hitter on the Yankees' roster by any measure, and Cavalli leans heavily on that pitch. In addition, he has the third-highest ground ball rate among Yankees hitters, and Cavalli induces grounders at an elite level.
