HR picks for August 17

Willy Adames (+380 at DraftKings)

The San Francisco Giants host the Tampa Bay Rays in the afternoon portion of Sunday’s MLB slate. Righty Ryan Pepiot takes the mound for Tampa Bay, and he's struggled in limiting punishing contact.

This season, Pepiot ranks in the 34th percentile or lower in average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. San Francisco’s Willy Adames is a good candidate to take advantage of this weakness.

Adames ranks in the top half of the league in xSLG, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. He'll send one out of the park tonight.

Cal Raleigh (+260 at DraftKings)

ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball features the New York Mets hosting the Seattle Mariners. Cal Raleigh looks to extend his league lead in home runs to 47 in what has been a historic season for Seattle’s catcher.

He currently ranks in the 88th percentile or higher in xSLG, average exit velocity, barrel rate, and hard-hit rate. Subsequently, Raleigh has homered in four of his past seven games.

This success is likely to continue against Clay Holmes, who ranks in the bottom half of the league in xERA, average exit velocity, and hard-hit rate.

Josh Naylor (+550 at DraftKings)

Another Mariners hitter likely to take advantage of these analytics is Josh Naylor. Naylor also ranks in the 61st percentile in xSLG this year.

Looking to keep things rolling, Naylor has homered in three of his past nine games. He sports a .710 SLG and 1.121 OPS over that stretch.
