HR picks for April 28
Jose Ramirez (+350 at DraftKings)
Jose Ramirez is off to a respectable start this season, hitting .263 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 25 games. The veteran has long been known as a guy with power, and he’ll face Bailey Ober tonight, who has already given up five home runs in five starts.
The third baseman has swung it well against Ober, going 6 for 19 lifetime with a homer. Ramirez has gone deep four times against right-handers compared to just once against lefties. Also, all of his bombs have come in night games, and the series opener here takes place this evening at Progressive Field.
Also, it just feels like Ramirez is due to leave the yard. He hasn’t hit a home run in five straight games, yet Ramirez has four hits during that span. Ober is prone to the long ball and gets a lot of his outs in the air.
Aaron Judge (+185 at DraftKings)
I know the odds aren’t great here, but it’s because we’re talking about Aaron Judge, possibly the best power hitter in baseball. He leads the Majors in average ( .406) and hits (43) right now. The reigning AL MVP also has eight home runs and just went deep on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
That was his first bomb in nine games, but there’s a good chance he could keep it rolling tonight. The New York Yankees begin a three-game set with the struggling Baltimore Orioles, who will hand Tomoyuki Sugano the baseball. While he’s pitched relatively well, Sugano has allowed six homers in only five outings.
Also, Judge lit up the O’s last season. In 12 games, he had six long balls, slashing .333. He’s already hit homers on back-to-back days once this season as well. Despite the +185 odds, this bet is worthy of a spot in tonight's MLB picks.
Tyler Soderstrom (+500 at DraftKings)
Tyler Soderstrom got off to an extremely hot start, smacking nine home runs through the first few weeks of the campaign, including three multi-homer games. Soderstrom has since cooled off, failing to leave the yard in nine appearances.
While he’s only had one long ball against lefties and the Texas Rangers send Patrick Corbin to the hill tonight, it’s only a matter of time until the Athletics slugger finds the bleachers again. He’s proving to be one of the better power hitters in the AL early on, and Corbin has surrendered three bombs in as many starts.
Soderstrom may end his cold streak in the series opener.
