The Cleveland Guardians will try to snap their season-long 10-game losing streak as they visit the Houston Astros at Daikin Park on Monday night.

Cleveland hasn’t been able to score runs during this streak, and I’m backing that trend to continue in my Guardians vs. Astros predictions. Let’s break down tonight’s matchup in my free MLB picks.

Guardians vs Astros prediction

My Guardians vs Astros best bet: Guardians team total Under 3.5 (-125 at Caesars)

It’s rare to see a team go as ice-cold at the plate as the Cleveland Guardians have over their past 10 games. Cleveland has scored only 1.5 runs per game during that span and has been shut out five times during this losing streak.

It’s not as though the Guardians were an offensive powerhouse before the losing streak; even then, they were scoring 3.81 runs per game for the year. The extreme struggles have been ongoing for nearly a month now, with Cleveland hitting just .196 with a .582 OPS over the last 28 days (24 games).

Tonight, Cleveland will face off against Houston Astros rookie starter Colton Gordon. While Gordon has had a mix of success and failure in his first season, he's 3-0 with a solid 3.16 ERA over his last five starts. That includes a previous start against the Guardians in Cleveland, when he allowed one run over five innings of work.

Right now, even scoring two or three runs is a huge accomplishment for Cleveland, and I don’t see the Guardians breaking out tonight against a rookie who seems to be finding his stride.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Guardians vs Astros same-game parlay (SGP)

Guardians team total Under 3.5

Astros -1.5

Colton Gordon Over 4.5 strikeouts

The Guardians' inept offense leaves them vulnerable to big losses. For my SGP, I’m taking the Astros to cover the -1.5 run line of -1.5 runs.

I’m also picking Houston starter Colton Gordon to go Over 4.5 strikeouts, as he’s striking out 8.1 batters per nine innings and should go deeper than usual against Cleveland.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
