Everyone knows the Los Angeles Dodgers are a superteam, which makes the fact that the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants are giving them a run for their money in the NL West all the more intriguing.

So, get prepared for more intrigue as San Diego hosts L.A. in the first of a three-game set with the Padres trailing the Giants by just one game. It’ll be the first time these rivals face off in 2025, and my Dodgers vs. Padres predictions and MLB picks expect fireworks.

Dodgers vs Padres prediction

My Dodgers vs Padres best bet: Over 8 (-110 at Caesars)

It feels kind of funny that these two NL West rivals haven’t played yet, considering we're well into June. That said, I’m betting the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres make up for lost time and start this series with a bang.

The Dodgers have the most dangerous lineup in baseball, and just recently passed the Cubs for most runs scored in the Big Leagues this season. I like them to keep the runs coming when they dig in against Padres starter Nick Pivetta.

Pivetta’s first season in San Diego has mostly been solid, but he’s had a few hiccups along the way, including surrendering five runs on six hits in six innings last time out against the Giants.

Not only does he have to deal with a Dodgers lineup that leads the majors in batting average, OPS, and wRC+ vs. right-handed pitching, but one that's given him a fair amount of problems in the past. Current Dodgers batters have combined for a .262 expected batting average and a .496 expected slugging over 144 plate appearances.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers counter Pivetta with a right-hander of their own in Dustin May. The 27-year-old has always been known for his filthy movement on his pitches. However, it just doesn’t look like his stuff has been as good in 2025.

He enters this matchup with the Padres sporting a 4.46 expected ERA while giving up a .265 expected batting average to opponents. Both rank in the Bottom 28% of major league pitchers. While this Padres lineup has been a little more up-and-down when compared to the Dodgers, their big boppers have done the job when facing off against May. They’ve combined for a .375 xBA and a .459 xSLG.

I’m betting the lineups get the better of the starting pitchers tonight and taking the Over 8 in Monday’s opener.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Dodgers vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 8

Freddie Freeman 1+ RBI

Manny Machado 1+ RBI

So, who’s going to produce those runs? Why, Freddie Freeman and Manny Machado, of course.

Freeman has cooled off a bit in June following a May that had some wondering if he could steal MVP votes away from Shohei Ohtani. Either way, he enters this game with a .345 average, a 1.000 OPS with nine home runs and 40 RBI. He’s also the Dodger with the most success vs. Pivetta. He’s 12-for-26 in his career vs. the Padres right-hander, including five extra-base hits. That’s good for a .360 xBA and a .736 xSLG.

Meanwhile, Machado is raking right now. He’s hitting .387 with a .1203 OPS, four home runs, and eight RBI over his last eight games. And even though he’s a mediocre 7-for-30 in his career vs. May, he’s taken him deep twice in those at-bats.
