The St. Louis Cardinals face off against the San Diego Padres on Saturday night.

San Diego has won six in a row, and my Cardinals vs. Padres predictions are betting on that streak to continue. Here are my best MLB picks for this NL showdown on August 2.

Cardinals vs Padres prediction

My Cardinals vs Padres best bet: Padres moneyline (-145 at Caesars)

The St. Louis Cardinals are just 1-5 in their last six contests, while the San Diego Padres are on a six-game win streak after taking the series opener last night.

Since the All-Star break, the Padres are fifth in the majors in batting average at .280. While the Friars have surged, the Cardinals have sizzled, batting just .227 with an OPS of .652 since the break.

Despite playing at pitcher-friendly Petco Park, the Padres still hit better at home. They should have success at the plate against Michael McGreevy, who has a 4.91 ERA through 33 innings. The 25-year-old is coming off a great start against the Mets, but gets hit hard and has an xBA of .302, so expect regression.

The Padres are starting Randy Vasquez, who has a 3.65 ERA through 21 starts. Vasquez held the Cards to just one hit in 4 2/3 innings in his previous start last Saturday. His analytics are worrying, but it's hard to ignore his current form, and he has the best bullpen in the majors behind him.

With the Padres 7-1 in their last eight games at home and the Cards 2-11 in their previous 13 away contests, back the home side on the moneyline.

Cardinals vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Padres moneyline

Fernando Tatis Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Randy Vasquez Under 14.5 outs

Fernando Tatis Jr. is one of the most talented hitters in the world and ranks in the Top 15th percentile in hard-hit rate, exit velocity, and expected slugging percentage. He's been even more productive at home, where he slugs .510, and he also has excellent reverse platoon splits, slugging .493 against righties.

I mentioned that Vasquez has some worrying metrics, and he tends to give up plenty of hits and walks, which often gets him pulled early. Despite the Padres winning eight of his last 10 starts, Vasquez has logged fewer than 14.5 outs in seven of those contests.
