We’ve got a busy betting slate around Major League Baseball tonight, including the series opener between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Texas Rangers.

Alejandro Kirk had a career night in the series opener against the Rangers and I expect him to keep it rolling tonight in Game Two of the series with Patrick Corbin on the mound.

Blue Jays predictions for August 16

Today’s Blue Jays best bet: Kirk Keeps It Coming

Alejandro Kirk Over 1.5 total bases (+115 at BetVictor)

Alejandro Kirk was 2-for-4 last night with a home run and four RBI en route to guiding the Toronto Blue Jays to victory over the Texas Rangers.

He’s feeling it and this could be the start of another offensive run for the Jays’ backstop, who has been one of the best hitting catchers in baseball this season.

Kirk is hitting .296 on the year, and ranks in the 94th percentile in xBA, while also ranking in the 90th percentile in hard hit rate.

Rangers starter Patrick Corbin features a heavy dose of the sinker/slider combination with a hint of a cutting fastball. He’s been hit around a lot too lately, posting a 5.84 ERA with an opponent average of .271 with a 15% walk rate.

The walks have hurt him immensely, so I expect him to try and throw strikes tonight to avoid that, and that is where Kirk can do damage.

The Jays slugger has shown the ability to handle the sinker and cutter extremely well this season, posting a batting average of .333 and .400 respectively against those pitches.

Kirk is also 3-for-3 lifetime against Corbin with a pair of extra base hits. I like the value of plus-money for the multi-base evening for him tonight.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Alejandro Kirk Over 1.5 total bases

Ernie Clement Over 1.5 total bases

Eric Lauer Over 15.5 outs

For the first leg of our SGP, we’ll use our best bet and go Over 1.5 total bases for Kirk.

With lefty Patrick Corbin on the mound tonight, I’ll also take Ernie Clement to go Over 1.5 bases as well.

The Jays’ utility infield has crushed left-handed pitching this season, posting a .945 OPS with 19 extra base hits against them in 141 at-bats. He’s also 3-for-4 against Corbin in his career with a triple.

For the final leg of the SGP, let’s take Eric Lauer to go Over 15.5 outs. Lauer is 4-1 to the Over at that number, averaging 16.8 outs over his last five starts.

I expect him to return to form against a struggling offense that ranks 28th in team OPS, averaging just 3.5 runs per game over their last 10 games.
