Can the Toronto Blue Jays beat the heat — and the Baltimore Orioles — in Game 2 of their doubleheader at Camden Yards on Tuesday?

Well, Toronto is hoping the resurgent Eric Lauer is up to the task, particularly considering how much the O’s have struggled against southpaws.

My Blue Jays predictions break down why Lauer will be the difference in the nightcap between these two AL East rivals.

Today’s Blue Jays Game 2 best bet: Spotlight on Lauer

Blue Jays -0.5 five inning run line (+100 at BetVictor)

Eric Lauer has certainly had a hand in the Toronto Blue Jays surging to the top of the American League.

It’s just a little surprising considering the 30-year-old left-hander spent part of last season in the KBO pitching for the Kia Tigers. (Shoutout to the KBO!)

But Lauer has been a revelation for the Jays. The lefty joined Toronto’s rotation permanently in early June making eight starts. He’s allowed two earned runs of fewer in seven of them.

Lauer is also coming off his best start of the season, limiting the Detroit Tigers to one run on five hits while striking out six over eight innings.

That performance lowered his expected ERA to 2.90 and his opponent expected batting average to .216. Both are in the Top 16% among all MLB pitchers.

That ain’t good for the Baltimore Orioles. Lefties have given them real problems. Baltimore ranks 21st in batting average, 23rd in OPS, and has the 10th highest strikeout rate when facing left-handed pitching.

The Orioles haven’t announced their starter for Game 2 of this doubleheader, but if it’s a bullpen day, that’s also a problem. Baltimore relievers combine for the sixth worst ERA in baseball.

With Lauer on the mound the Jays will have a big edge in starting pitching here and I love the value for them to carry a lead into the sixth.

Today’s Blue Jays same-game parlay (SGP)

Blue Jays moneyline

Eric Lauer Over 5.5 strikeouts

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Over 1.5 total bases

Lauer boasts a great strikeout rate, punching out 26.4% of batters faced, and the lefty has punched out six or more batters in five of his last seven starts. I’d target the Over on Lauer’s strikeout prop up to 6.5, considering how much the O’s whiff vs. lefties.

We’ve also gotta mention Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The ball must look like a grapefruit to the Jays' star slugger; he entered today's action hitting .486 with a 1.396 OPS over his last nine games, including four doubles, three home runs, and 10 RBIs.

The Over on Vladdy’s total bases has solid value tonight.

Find the balance between the numbers and what you see on the playing field. Then find the best price using multiple books. And don’t ask him where the nickname Taco comes from. It's not an interesting story. Seriously.
