A's vs Astros Prediction, Picks, and Odds for Tonight’s MLB Game

It's been slow-going for the Astros offense to start the season but that's starting to change thanks to the red-hot bats of Alex Bregman and Jeremy Pena. We break down their impact in our MLB betting picks below.

Latest MLB Picks
Alex Bregman Houston Astros MLB

The Houston Astros have not been able to blast off through the first six weeks of the MLB season but they’ve been a lot better of late with wins in five of their last six. Alex Bregman has been a big part of that success with 10 hits and seven RBI in his last seven games.

Will Bregman keep his hot streak going against the Oakland Athletics? Find out in my MLB picks and Athletics vs. Astros predictions for Wednesday, May 15.

My best bet
Alex Bregman over 1.5 total bases (+120 at DraftKings)

My analysis
The Houston Astros eked out their second straight win against the Oakland Athletics last night with a 2-1 victory in extra innings as Victor Caratini hit a walk-off RBI single in the 10th. While the Astros recorded just seven hits, Alex Bregman was all over the boxscore again with two hits and a solo home run.

Bregman has been uncharacteristically bad at the plate to start the season with a lowly .225 average and just 18 RBI through 39 games, but he's picked up the pace over the past week.

The third baseman enters Wednesday on a six-game hit streak with a team-leading 22 total bases while batting .357 through the last seven days. I’ll look for him to hit Over 1.5 total bases tonight.

The Astros slugger will have a good opportunity to keep his hot streak going tonight as the A’s send Aaron Brooks to the mound. The 34-year-old has not pitched in the majors since 2022; his last MLB start was back in 2019. Brooks owns a 4.57 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP through eight starts with Triple-A Las Vegas this year.

The right-hitting Bregman has hit slightly better against righties this season, batting .230 vs right-handers compared to .216 vs lefties. He’s also been excellent against Brooks, with four hits (two extra-base hits) in five career at-bats.

A's vs Astros same-game parlay (SGP)

Alex Bregman Over 1.5 total bases

Jeremy Pena Over 1.5 hits

Astros team total Over 4.5

Jeremy Pena has also been on a strong run for the Astros with a team-high 11 hits and a .407 batting average over the past week. The shortstop has collected multiple hits in four of his last seven outings so I like him to cash the Over on 1.5 hits tonight.

Lastly, I’ll take the Astros to go Over 4.5 runs. Houston is middle of the pack offensively this season at 4.50 runs per game (14th) but the club has averaged 5.40 runs over its last five contests. The A's have also surrendered a whopping 7.50 runs per game through their last 10 outings.
