New York ended August with a weekly sports betting handle above $400 million for the first time since the period ending July 12.
Key Takeaways
- New Yorkers wagered 10.1% more dollars to end August than the previous week.
- Online sportsbooks stayed above $30 million in gross revenue for the fourth consecutive week during the month.
- DraftKings continued its recent handle reign over FanDuel in the market.
Highlighted by college football’s Week Zero games, the New York State Gaming Commission reported on Friday that the eight online mobile sports betting operators generated $420.3 million, a 10.1% week-over-week increase, during the week ending Aug. 30. Wagering was down 24.7% from the same period last year, but that was college football’s Week 1, the first full slate of the 2025 season.
The smattering of college games last weekend, combined with MLB, helped operators produce $39.3 million in gross revenue, a nearly 30% week-over-week spike. Online sportsbooks made at least $30 million each week in August for the second consecutive year.
The 9.5% hold was the second highest weekly win rate for the month but well short of the 11.9% hold in the same week in 2025. Only two online New York sports betting operators won back at least 10%.

Big week
DraftKings extended its state-best weekly handle streak to three consecutive periods, generating $149.5 million. It’s also the operator’s largest weekly amount wagered since July 12, a key week during the World Cup.
DraftKings won back 8.1% of the handle, producing $12.1 million in gross revenue. FanDuel had a significantly higher 10.8% hold, leading to a state-high $15.9 million in gross revenue from a $146.8-million handle during the week ending Aug. 30.
It was FanDuel’s sixth consecutive revenue haul below $20 million since the World Cup ended. That could change in the next report, which will include the first full week of college football.
