NEXTPredict: Supreme Court Loss Wouldn't Sink Prediction Markets

Day 2 of the NEXTPredict conference in New York featured chatter about what happens to prediction markets should the Supreme Court rule against sports event contracts.

Attorney Josh Sterling, a partner at Milbank, said prediction market operators would have alternatives, such as the state-regulated sportsbook market or expansion into other financial products.

“They may have grown beyond event contracts, sports, into other areas that are even more promising for them as a business proposition,” Sterling said.

Bettors Backing Brewers in a World Series with Questionable Interest

The 2026 World Series gets underway tonight and 90% of the money from the betting public at one major sportsbook is on the Milwaukee Brewers.

That amount of one-sided action has pushed the Brew Crew's odds to win the World Series ahead of Game 1.

“It’s been Brewers money so far. Milwaukee opened as -160 series favorites and are up to -180,” one sportsbook told Covers.

DraftKings Live Betting Booms with New “Football Moonshot”

DraftKings just expanded its live betting menu for fans of the pigskin with Football Moonshot, which builds on the Baseball Moonshot game that was released earlier this year.

Football Moonshot is a single, dynamic wager that increases in value as a game progresses. Customers set a target payout and add value multipliers to their ticket through important live events, such as:

  • Any pass or rush for positive yardage: +0.2x
  • Every full 10 yards gained: +0.5x
  • First down: +0.5x
  • Offensive touchdown: +2x

Customers can accept live cash-out between plays. Rounds begin on qualifying rushing or passing plays outside the opponent’s 20-yard line and on an incomplete pass or a turnover.

Bettor Pleads Guilty to Illegal NBA Bets, Denies Billups’ Support

A co-conspirator in the NBA gambling scandal involving Terry Rozier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court on Thursday. However, he denied receiving illicit information from former player and head coach Chauncey Billups, ESPN reported.

Eric Earnest was said to have received information that the Portland Trail Blazers, who were coached by Billups, would sit key rotation players in a 2023 game against the Chicago Bulls to help tank for a better draft position. Earnest told the court that he agreed with another person — whose description aligns with Billups — to place an illegal bet. But despite the apparent overlap, Earnest’s attorney told reporters that Billups did not aid the illegal efforts.

Earnest also pleaded guilty to wire fraud related to allegedly rigged poker games in which Billups was also involved and charged. He has pleaded not guilty.
