Boxing might not be the attention-grabber of decades past, but every once in a while, a match comes along that fans and bettors can truly get behind.

Key Takeaways

  • Canelo Alvarez is a -160 favorite to defend his Super Middleweight title

  • Nearly 50% of the money is on Alvarez, but Crawford is getting a higher percentage of bets

  • Crawford also has the most-bet prop in Saturday’s fight

Such a bout is scheduled for Saturday, when legendary boxer Canelo Alvarez takes on one of the sport’s great champions in Terence Crawford. Sportsbooks are preparing for big-time action with Alvarez listed as a -160 favorite.

“In a battle between two of the best boxers of this generation, I fully expect Alvarez vs. Crawford to be the most wagered on boxing match of the year,” BetMGM senior trader Alex Rella said.

According to BetMGM, Alvarez, the Super Middleweight champ, is getting 49% of the money, but Crawford (+145) has 45% of the tickets. A tie is getting 36% of the bets and 13% of the handle.

“While Alvarez has taken a slightly higher handle in the 3-way money line (contains a draw), Crawford has received more than double the action than Canelo in regard to our 2-way money line,” Rella said. “I anticipate the action will shift more in Alvarez's direction as we get closer to fight night.”
