Odds as of 10-29.

Win pick: Libertango

No. 3 Libertango (5-2, morning-line favorite) has lost only twice in five lifetime starts, running second to a next-out winner each time. Her most recent defeat was to Sun Goddess, who figures to be odds-on in the Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Flavien Prat climbs aboard the daughter of No Nay Never, who's outrun 40 others in her two Group triumphs.

Place pick: Brickyard Belle

No. 4 Brickyard Belle (3-1) is 2-for-2 lifetime and brings a bullet turf work into this start. She was last seen closing like a shot to catch Harper's Corner in the Matron Stakes at Belmont Park.

Manny Franco retains the assignment for Miguel Clement.

Show pick: Mussab

No. 5 Mussab (15-1) gets the nod for third over No. 8 Force Noir and No. 10 Harper's Corner. Not only is he a bit faster than those two on paper, but he's also won three in a row.

Mussab sheds weight and has the tactical speed to create his own racing luck. The extra half-furlong shouldn't inhibit him, but the class jump from a Group 3 may.

Best bet: $2 exacta 3,4/3,4,5,8,10, $2 exacta box 3/4, $4 win 5 ($24)

Breeders' Cup Juvenile odds, prediction and best bet

  • Race: Keeneland Race 9

1 Damavand +2000
2 Gaudreau OTB
3 Salahudin +600
4 Earth Song +2000
5 Hughes +100
6 American History +450
7 Coach Pope +400
8 He Is No Lie +1500

Odds as of 10-29.

Win pick: American History

No. 6 American History (9-2) is training forwardly for five-time Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Todd Pletcher after upsetting Coach Pope in the Breeders' Futurity over this course.

His 2-for-2 record comes despite some less-than-perfect trips. If he can save ground and learn to switch leads, the son of Constitution should give Hughes all he can handle in the lane.

Place pick: Hughes

It's fair to wonder who No. 5 Hughes (EVEN, morning-line favorite) has beaten in his four career starts, all in California. None of his rivals that ran in the money behind him returned to win next time out, and he's never faced more than five foes.

Still, he can't be taken lightly off his huge American Pharoah Stakes effort for Bob Baffert, who knows a thing or two about winning at the Breeders' Cup. Prat sees fit to climb aboard.

Show pick: Coach Pope

No. 7 Coach Pope (4-1) burned chalkplayers in the Breeders' Futurity, with no obvious excuse. His latest work for Ken McPeek was also not encouraging. Still, he's logical for third off his first two well-rated efforts.

Best bet: $10 exacta box 5/6 ($20)
