Sweden and Finland will square off this afternoon for a shot at the gold medal game Monday night.
The Swedes enter with the far more impressive resume, and my Finland vs. Sweden predictions expect this matchup to reflect that with a multi-goal victory for the Tre Kronor.
Let’s take a closer look at my World Junior betting picks for Sunday, January 4.
Sweden have impressed as much as anybody in this tournament. They've won all five games with each win coming in regulation, a feat no other team has matched.
They've outscored opponents 27-11 and won four of five games by multiple goals. Only their opener against Slovakia was decided by a single tally, and the Swedes took five penalties in that contest.
They have a much more impressive profile than the Finns, who have won three of five games.
USA are the only team Finland beat who won multiple times in this tournament, and their goal differential (+1 over five games) suggests their reputation far exceeded their on-ice performance.
Led by Anton Frondell, Sweden’s offense will be a lot for Finland to handle defensively. He's the most talented player in this game, and there are plenty of dangerous scoring options behind him.
The Swedes also look to have an edge in goal with Love Harnstem (4-0, .903 SV%) countering Petteri Rimpinen (3-2, .876 SV%).
Look for the Swedes to win their fifth straight game by multiple goals and punch their ticket to the finals.
This total feels a little light. Sweden has averaged 5.4 goals themselves, and four of five games have gone Over this total — including the last elimination game against Latvia. Four of five Finland games have also featured at least six goals.
