I really liked the under in this game too...unfortunately this is the first under I have taken during the weeknights in 3 weeks and of course tonight was the first over!!

I really think this system will be money with the NFL - there is just some tinkering that needs to be done with college - especially the weeknight games. I think this could work in some college games but I think we need to be careful with it.

I really enjoy playing with the numbers though!! We wll get it figured out!!

Im actually thinking it is not a bad looking card.  Probably wont play them blindly but interesting as far as the results go.

I kind of like the card as well!!

Here're some food for thought.  Did some digging on HFA and find a formula

    HFA*R1*(1-R2)/(HFA*R1*(1-R2)+(1-HFA)*R2*(1-R1))

basically HFA can increase a chance from 3% up to 11% on the predicted score for the home team.  Not exactly sure how to incorporate this into the spreadsheet but I'm sure it's possible.

For the people wondering why I keep saying that statfox keeps inaccurate stats, let me illustrate.

Let me you give an example for New York Giants RUSHING YARDS (vs Giants Opponents RUSH DEFENSE)

    According to statfox stats

NY Giants is averaging 160.4 RUSH yards/per game (This is accurate)

Also, it has that Giants opponents have allowed on average 134.5 rush yards/per game.

    Meaning, Giants have rushed +25.9 better than its opponent's average (160.4 - 134.5 = +25.9)/

Simple. Nice. Have a nice day.

    This information is inaccurate.

Statfox is counting what Giants have rushed against each of its opponents, and that's not an accurate reading.

Let me give you a full example:

Giants have rushed for 802 yards for the season (160.4 yards/per game).

Giants have faced: (number in parenthesis is games played for each team)

    (5) Washington - 598 rush yards allowed
    (5) Dallas - 532 rush yards allowed
    (5) Tampa Bay - 763 rush yards allowed
    (5) Kansas City - 478 rush yards allowed
    (5) Oakland - 805 rush yards allowed.

    TOTAL: 3,362 rush yards allowed

If you take 3,362 rush yards allowed divided by 25 games (all games for Giants opponents)

    3,362 rush yards allowed / 25 games = 134.5 rush yards/average

This is the number statfox use.

But it's not taking the accurate number.

If I want to know how Giants's opponents have done, I have to remove what Giants rushed against them.

Giants opponents: 3,362 rush yards allowed - 802 (Giants rush yards) = 2,560 rush yards allowed.

Giants have played one game against each opponent. Instead of 25 total games, it's only 20 games.

    2,560 rush yards allowed / 20 games = 128.0 rush yards allowed/average (Firefox says 134.5 yards/per game)

    Giants 160.4 yards per game
Opponents: 128.0 rush yards per game allowed

    160.4 - 128.0 = +32.4 rush yards better than opponent. (Statfox says (+25.9)

    That's a difference of +6.5.

This is the accurate number for this stat.

Giants are +32.4 rush yards better than its opponents. (not +25.9)

    Hope that helps.

I truly hope a majority of you people are just incorporating this into you handicapping style. I have a bad feeling there's going to be alot of people blindly tailing this based on last weeks results .

But I love the idea behind the system. Has its flaws like all other systems, but just alter the numbers accordingly after the result comes out. I'm going to stick to my old method of handicapping while dry testing this mixed with some traditional capping on the side and see how it goes. I think that this could be very effective if used correctly, however. Awsome job

Hey guys, I've been watching this thread for a few days.  Looks like a solid system in the NFL, would want to see how a few weeks of NCAA plays out before taking the leap.

For everyone who wants to tail blindly, just remember it is GAMBLING still and some will win and some will lose.

I look forward to seeing how this weekends games turnout!

So based of of the score that you entered here I went through the lines for tomorrow and I only picked out the games that were good by a 10pnt margin...larger than first mentioned on sides. Here is what I came up with. Also, notice how accurate your scores are with the ACTUAL totals for each game - only a few are off by more than 5points.

    Oklahoma +3.5

    Bowling Green -3

Iowa +2.5 - (love this one by the way)

    Virginia -3.5 and over

    Kentucky / Auburn Over

USC / Notre Dame - under (love this too - love USC but not based on the system)

    Marshall +20.5

    Nebraska -10.5 and under

    Va Tech -4 and under

    Missouri +6.5

Colorado St +22 (not a real fan of this one)

    New Mexico St +20.5

    N. Illinois -7

    Arkansas / Florida under

    Navy -7.5

    Washington +6.5

I will look them all over after Saturday but here is a good start...again before jumping on these I would do some capping on your own!! I hope we get some good results from these!!

I went ahead and did all NFL games based on Sagarin rating and HFA.  Like VG said, some data on statfox was inaccurate so take it as you want.

    Hey roughshod31,

Just so I understand this, if you have a double negative or positive, you are subtacting one from the other and then dividing by two?

For example, team A has rushed for 40 yards more than their opponent allows.  Team B allows 30 more rush yards then their opponent gains.

    Would you -40 - -30 = -10/2 =-5?

This is the only part I'm not sure of.

    Would you -40 - -30 = -10/2 =-5?

This is the only part I'm not sure of.

Go back to simple math as it is more accurate. I am working on a improved SOS multiplier system taking into account Offensive/Defensive Efficiency vs. expected efficiency. (Using Sagarin Power Ratings/Schedule ex. Wake Forest 75.77/69.61= 1.042) I hope to post projected scores using this new method for a few games sometime later today.

Interesting roughshod.  Will this work for the NFL too?

roughshod31,  In the new method are you still dividing the SOS or simply just having the factor be Ranking/SOS and then mulptiplying that for YPPT?
