Yes, wearing masks is PROVEN effective to reduce covid-19 spread

I am not going to waste time re-posting again all the previous discussion
with supportive research and links explaining that wearing masks is in
fact an effective method -- and a necessary one -- at reducing the spread
    of this dangerous contagion.

Yes, only "vulnerable" segments of the population are at significant risk
of DEATH from covid-19. Those known to be at elevated risk are those with
pre-existing health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, heart ailments,
and obesity, as well as the elderly and minorities.
But these groups combined equate to well over *HALF* our population!

Furthermore, while the spread of the disease may not actually KILL many,
they can still get sick. Very, VERY sick! And fill up the available beds in the
hospitals' ICU wards, putting a severe strain on our health care system.
Additionally, doctors are now finding many of those lucky ones who
recovered from hospitalization are still feeling lingering, possibly
    permanent, negtive health effects.

*NOTE: to date, virtually ALL "mask skeptics" are trump-supporters.

While this new evidence is convincing to  any rational human,
I fully expect trump-supporters to deny everything because it doesn't fit
with current "right-wing rhetoric."  Or maybe I'm wrong about that.

    Study: mask mandates shown to
    significantly reduce spread of COVID-19

    October 06, 2020

A new study by Simon Fraser University (Canada) has found clear evidence
that wearing a mask can have a significant impact on the spread of COVID-19.

The researchers, from SFU’s Department of Economics, have determined
that mask mandates are associated with a 25% or larger weekly reduction
    in COVID-19 cases.

A further Canada-wide analysis with province-level data found a significantly
negative association between mask mandates and subsequent COVID-19
case growth –  up to a 46% average reduction  in weekly cases
in the first several weeks after adoption.

    COVID-19 spreading HALF as quickly
    in counties with mask mandates,
    Kansas U research proves

The analysis by KU’s Institute for Policy and Social Research found that
counties with mask mandates had roughly half as many cases of the
respiratory virus as the statewide average when adjusted for population.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly issued a statewide mask order on July 2
80 counties rejected the mask mandate; 21 counties opted in and enforced it.

Professor Donna Ginther said the counties with mask mandates saw a
significant slowdown in new virus cases. Specifically, counties with mask
mandates saw an average of about seven new cases each day per 100,000
residents, as compared to the statewide average of about 14 new cases
    per day per 100,000 residents.

Notably, Ginther said that when they controlled the data to account for
social distancing measures, the masked counties still saw only 50% as
much spread as the statewide average. In other words, the counties
with mask orders didn’t see their cases drop because they were better
at practicing other recommended public health measures — the sole factor
of wearing a mask was enough to slow the spread of the virus.

Ginther said this analysis leaves little to interpretation:

“Now if you just look at the data, it’s pretty clear,” she said.
“One of the things about masks is that it keeps you safe when
you’re in public. If we want to open up the economy and teach
kids in school and get closer to a normal lifestyle before we
get a vaccine, our best option is to wear a mask.
Especially now that things are moving indoors.”

significant slowdown in new virus cases.

    KU research: County mask mandates
stalls major rise in COVID-19 in Kansas

    Source: https://tinyurl.com/yyk6z5g6
or One minute video with graph: https://tinyurl.com/y3t39ond

TOPEKA — Researchers at the University of Kansas report counties with mask
mandates thwarted significant escalation in transmission of COVID-19 and counties
operating without a requirement people wear a face covering suffered
    steady infection rate increases.

Elected county government leaders in 80 Kansas counties rejected the order issued in July
by Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly mandating every Kansas resident to wear a mask in public
places where 6 feet of social distancing couldn’t be maintained.

Twenty-one counties in Kansas maintain a mask mandate.

Donna Ginther, a distinguished professor of economics said research showed
Kansas counties with a mask mandate could expect seven fewer cases per day
    for every 100,000 people.

“Cases in counties with a mask mandate stopped increasing,” Ginther said.
“And, cases in counties without a mandate, just kind of went crazy.”

The KU researchers demonstrated Kansas counties without the mask order
experienced a surge in coronavirus infection rates that climbed from about
10 cases per 100,0000 in July to nearly 40 cases per 100,000 in October.
The number of cases for counties covered by the mask order
plateaued since July at around 20 cases per 100,000.

Trumps denialist regime?  How is he a denialist?  He closed the borders in January and Democrats called him a racist for it.  He sent military ships in to major cities to help with hospitals being overloaded.  He delegated Covid to the governors because he realized every state is unique and needs to handle the situation differently.  He put (failure) Fauci and Birx on television nightly to give updates.  I can go on and on, but these are not the actions of a denialist.  He was optomistic, and unfortunately he was wrong.  Fauci, the leading expert on infectious disease told us that it wouldnt be a big deal in the US, he also said we shouldnt wear masks early on and he also said that we shouldnt stop travel to other countries, thank god Trump didnt listen to every word this crack pot said.

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly issued a statewide mask order on July 280 counties rejected the mask mandate; 21 counties opted in and enforced it. Professor Donna Ginther said the counties with mask mandates saw a significant slowdown in new virus cases. Specifically, counties with mask mandates saw an average of about seven new cases each day per 100,000 residents, as compared to the statewide average of about 14 new cases per day per 100,000 residents. Notably, Ginther said that when they controlled the data to account for social distancing measures, the masked counties still saw only 50% as much spread as the statewide average. In other words, the counties with mask orders didn’t see their cases drop because they were better at practicing other recommended public health measures — the sole factor of wearing a mask was enough to slow the spread of the virus.   Ginther said this analysis leaves little to interpretation: “Now if you just look at the data, it’s pretty clear,” she said. “One of the things about masks is that it keeps you safe when you’re in public. If we want to open up the economy and teach kids in school and get closer to a normal lifestyle before we get a vaccine, our best option is to wear a mask. Especially now that things are moving indoors.”

intresting that the  PROOF  that wearing masks is effective at reducing covid spread comes from a traditionally deep red state of kansas

    Yeah I saw that too!

But KU is a respected university in a red state and they showed the proof,

although ironically it was not a planned research!

It occured only BECAUSE 80 counties refused the Governor's mask-mandate, while 21 counties opted in.

    So they compared results.

And they are striking. PROVEN beyond all reasonable doubt (otherthan denialists of course)

    That's an excellent point!

While some dummies will lament that there are 7 countries (of at least 4 million pop.) with death rates worse than ours, there are actually 129 countries with at least 4 million pop. and 121 are doing far better than the trump-regime!!

     7  doing worse than trump

    121 doing BETTER than trump

    Bottom line.

    41 states are reporting a
    10% increase in Covid-19 cases!!

The US is adding an average of more than 74,000 new Covid-19 cases to the national
total every day -- a record high in a pandemic that experts say is likely to worsen.

Four of the five highest number of cases in a single day were recorded in the past
seven days, with the top two reported on Friday and Saturday.

Rising hospitalizations: In the Midwest, residents are being impacted by
the rising cases with spiking rates of hospitalizations.
Indiana and Wisconsin reported their peak levels of coronavirus hospitalizations.
And Kansas saw the most ICU hospitalizations of the virus in one day,
the same day the state surpassed 1,000 deaths since the pandemic began.
