1) America needed to be self sufficient or at least pretty quickly could get to that point
2) The global market should not be able to function without the US market
neither of those two statements are true - so they won’t work like he wants - almost the entire business model of US is to buy cheap junk from abroad and turn it into expensive junk your allies and population buy from you - and that has worked for decades - you can’t compete with China on their premise of copying and producing cheap junk for starters they are almost 4 times as many people as you guys - and their production culture is older than your country (and they pay their workers maybe 1/20th of what you guys demand)
