Greenland can't decide for themselves rather they want to leave or not - just like Denmark went in and said they couldn't make deals with China - when China wanted to harness their rare earth materials - Denmark is your longest running ally -- we have been allies for 225 years ok? If you are afraid of having ally territory close by - I would suggest not to piss off said allies - that seem like a more productive way of combating that problem - because Russia is literally your neighbour already - you can almost walk from Russia to Alaska if you wanted to
