Covid symptoms linked to the new omicron variant have been described as “extremely mild” by the South African doctor who first raised the alarm over the new strain.
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, told the BBC on Sunday that she started to see patients around Nov.18 presenting with “unusual symptoms” that differed slightly from those associated with the delta variant, which is the most virulent strain of the virus to date and globally dominant.

There just is not enough known about this variant yet to draw conclusions either way.
right . neither the south africans nor even dr. fauci knows enuf to make a valid and accurate assessment this early when omicron was only identified 2 weeks ago. it's like trying to accurately predict the final score of a football game from early in the first quarter . not possible . but given 2 or 3 more weeks we should have substantial and reliable data , dr. fauci said on the weekend .
Another interesting tidbit;
Iceland sequences every positive COVID test. They found the virus mutates to some degree about every forth transmission. They are able to determine contact tracing by these small mutations knowing who passed it on first based on these mutations.

In the last six months they had 11,604 confirmed cases and only 5 deaths!!!!! One death for every 2320 cases. The U.S. has one death for every 67 cases.

Despite no evidences, Fox news and other right wing medias falsely claim omicron is a hoax, cover-up for mail-in ballot agenda, fear mongering to scare Americans to get vaccinated, excuse to impose lockdowns and the fault of Biden. Apparently, conspiracy theories spread faster than omicron.
Nothing Biden has done is comparable to disinformation campaign of Trump's covid policy that contributes to avoidable deaths. By choosing to ignore advice from scientists, Trump made the pandemic worse. During Biden time in office, main problem is not the disease itself, but the anti-vaccine and anti-mask movements embraced by mostly republicans that lead to thousands of preventable deaths. Thankfully, despite disinformation efforts of GOP minority, most Americans support vaccine and mask mandates.

There isn't anywhere near enough researched and corroborated data for anyone to make judgements about omicron in either direction. Far too early. CDC and WHO both say it won't be until near the end of this month that a reasoned analysis can be made. Conspiracy theories obviously have no place in the argument
In the UK home COVID rapid tests are available by mail order for free, 7 at a time.
In Singapore the government sent every household 6 tests.
Germany, France, Belgium, and India provide the tests for only a few dollars.
Canada sent free tests to businesses.
Rapid tests hard to find in United States and they cost $20-30 a pair. When NPR's Mara Liasson asked Psaki why doesn't the Biden admin send out at home testing Psaki got snotty and asked how much that would cost.

Omicron significantly reduces Covid antibodies generated by Pfizer vaccine, new study finds
THE TELEGRAPH- via YAHOO NEWS, Dec 7 -
People who have previously had Covid or been vaccinated have
far LESS protection against Omicron than they do for other variants,
according to the first data of its kind.
Scientists from South Africa grew live samples of the omicron variant
and performed lab experiments to see if, and how, omicron was
affected by antibodies in blood samples from 12 people who had
vaccinated. Six of the people also had previously had Covid.
The world has been waiting for these neutralising studies to gauge
how pre-existing immunity from both vaccination and prior infection
will hold up against omicron.
The study shows how many antibodies are needed in order to stop
the virus from replicating and is an early indicator of how effective
the worrying new variant is at avoiding our immune system.
The preliminary data shows antibodies in blood samples are
41 times LESS effective for Omicron than for the 2020 strain.
However, it will be several weeks before real-world data
is available and more nuanced evaluations are possible.
Mixed news about omicron lately. This is one I was hoping we wouldn't get.

If that stat is confirmed in subsequent evaluations it doesn't bode well for the forseeable future.
Real world data is coming in. 43 confirmed cases of Omicron in United States. Of those 34 infected are fully vaccinated, 15 also had booster shot. As someone here likes to say, " a vast majority."
Only a matter of time that this virus would learn to evade the vaccines. Foolish to think that is the way out. Now, a different booster is needed to be developed, tested, and approved. By that time another new variant. And on and on and on.
Let's hope Omicron is mild as has been reported.
This is an argument for the vaccine. As long as the cases are mild then the vaccine is working exactly as intended.
