According to Cato institute, Trump administration reduced legal immigration but not illegal immigration. Reducing legal pathways increase illegal immigration. Cutting foreign aid and imposing sanctions on Latin American countries worsened economic crisis forcing more people to flee. .

Number of visas issued overseas was reduced. Especially during the pandemic. Meanwhile deportations drop to the lowest level since 2003. As a result, population of illegal immigrants remain unchanged. Republican Roy say Trump administration couldn't shut down border. So Trump didn't actually accomplish much on immigration.

According to Catos institute, Mayorkis is being impeached for failing to do the impossible. Prior homeland security secretaries have always released immigrants when detention capacity is overwhelmed. Due to congress inadequate funding, impossible for border patrol to detain all immigrants. Courts rule against holding immigrants in unhealthy conditions lacking basic human necessities. Instead of wasting time on impeachment, congress should be working on updating obsolete immigration laws to make Mayorkis job easier.
