Personally, I don't trust my money in a "pool" for management. I'd rather do my own research instead of letting a money manager throw darts at a board or buy what's best for their firms best interest.
As I've aged wiser over the years I've learned this 30's was all 401k index funds. Now it's 50/50 with the self directed brokerage. One is down roughly 10% and the other only 1%. Cash is king and I'm waiting patiently.

When you see CEOs of major companies dumping shares, Buffet hoarding cash, you know they are waiting for a dip. It is not that they only go up. No one can really time the market beneficially. You will always come out ahead if you just stay in. You will also come out even further ahead if you add more and continue DCA in when it is down. It is a huge difference.
